Steve Jacobstein, who has really kept in touch through the years, writes that he and his wife Pam and ten-month-old daughter, Stephanie, are living in Rochester, N. Y., where he is working with the firm of Komon, Berlove & Komon doing a general practice with some emphasis on litigation. This past fall he ran for the State Assembly as a Democrat but lost in that very strong Republican area. Steve tells me that his opponent was a chicken farmer. Enough said. He and Pam saw John Chamberlain and his wife before they left for London several weeks ago where John is finishing his work toward a Ph.D. They plan to go to the reunion unless Steve runs into a conflict with army summer camp.
It's a boy! Pete Brown and his wife, Jeanette, announced the birth of their son, Stephen Phillip, born on January 3 and weighing 9 lbs., 5½ OZ. (WOW). Their announcement was printed by the college computer and is probably the only one in existence like it. It is worth seeing. Congratulations from the Class. I estimate that Stephen should be on skis by next winter.
I have received a newspaper clipping on an article in The Cleveland Plain Dealer by-lined by Pete Slavin. He writes of his experiences in Japan where he has been for about seven months, with emphasis on teaching English in Tokyo. I don't have more specifics on his travels or his reason for his stay in the Far East but I'm sure all of us would like to hear more about it.
At least one of our class was successful in politics last fall. Brad Denny has been elected to the State Legislature in Vermont as a Republican. Republicans hold the two seats from his district in Central Vermont. Brad's grandfather is the former Speaker of the Vermont House.
Mike Prince is back in civilian life after serving as a patrol plane commander with the Navy. He is working with his father in the retail clothing business in Salem, N. J. While in the Navy Mike was stationed in Spain, Iceland, Puerto Rico, and Norway and was in Iceland when his son, Bruce, was born on February 28, in Maine. Mike was married to Jeanne Rhodes in May, 1967.
Ned Riley is the subject of an interesting item in Careers Today, a new magazine. He is a staff member of the publication. He joined the publication after receiving a Master's degree in journalism from U.C.L.A. Ned was with the marines after graduation and served 8 months in Viet Nam as a captain with an infantry platoon.
I have heard that Barry Linsky has become an assistant director of marketing with Clairol in New York. I have very little other information about Barry in my file and I hope that he fills us in on his travels through the marketing industry.
Gordy Clogston is in the same field with Harrell International, Inc. in Westport, Conn. Like Barry, he obtained his M.B.A. from Tuck School and went into the food marketing and product management business. I understand that Gordy and his wife, Martta Ann, a Hanover native, are living at Westport with their two children, Deborah, 6, and Gordon III, 4.
Charlie Fitch, that's right, Charlie Fitch, got married. The courageous girl is Jo Ann Smith of Avon. Mass. The marriage took place on November 23. I haven't heard from Charlie since college but I'm sure all of us would like to know his wanderings after leaving Hanover. Congratulations to Jo Ann.
I have received an announcement from Pete Stevenson containing news of his marriage to Nadia Araman, a Lebanese girl who is working as a psychiatric social worker with the Lebanese Government Office of Social Development. Pete has a really fascinating job with the Chase Manhattan Bank in Beirut. I doubt if they'll make it to the reunion but I am sure we would all like to offer our best wishes to his wife. Nadia was trained in France. Pete has been equally well travelled, studying in Bruges, Belgium after graduation. He has been with the Bank since 1965 and after training in New York, was assigned to Seoul, Korea, and then Beirut.
We know that the entire Class will be saddened to hear of the death of Mike Jos. lin, Navy pilot, whose F-4J Phantom H plane crashed into coastal waters January 31 on a routine training mission near Virginia Beach, Va. Mike had recently returned from Vietnam where he flew 123 combat missions and won seven Air Medals and other decorations from the Navy and the South Vietnamese government. An In Memoriam article appears in this issue.
These three '65 roommates held an unofficial reunion at Long Binh, Viet Nam, lastfall. L to r, Capt. Tom Miller, Capt. Dan Walden, Lieut. Don Boardman.
