Finally, I can further report to you on your class president, Howard J. Mullin. He should now be addressed as Dean Mullin, having joined Northwestern University's school of business administration as Associate Dean for administrative affairs. Had dinner with Howie at the Chicago Club shortly after he had assumed his new posision. Greatly enthused, says the prospects are fascinating, is glad to be back in Chicago, is very glad to again have the services of a secretary (she is very pleasant-sounding over the phone, I might add) and that as yet he and Edna have not located new diggings.
Also in Chicago, I had a delightful hour with Sykes Hardy and Helen in their apartment overlooking Lake Michigan and believe it or not, a view from all four points of the compass. Hope by the time you read this Helen is feeling herself again. She was in the process of a medical check-up when I saw them.
In the wives' department, must tell you that Marion rushed to the phone the other night at home to get a call from Ken Murray and in the process slipped and is now sporting a cracked clavicle. Dr. says if you have to bust something, this is a good one. The Murrays were reporting on their return from Switzerland, Spain, and delightful Morocco.
Sam Wormser was the only New York delegate from '27 at the recent Boston alumni dinner. He reports, "Doane Arnold,Paul Hannah, Larry Scammon, Bob Page, and Shorty Oliver gave the group quality, rather than quantity and it was the usual good fun."
George Friede attended the Dartmouth Alumni College at Hoods Canal (?), a branch of Puget Sound last fall. The SamMartins were also there.
The Class of '27 certainly has been hard hit recently, with the passing of Joe Hardin,Bill Spinney, and Bob Herrman. Had a telephone call from Joe's wife Connie the other night, spoke glowingly of her life with Joe, and particularly of his love for the College. Joe and Bill incidentally, died the same day.
Coggy Broer and Sue are off to Grenada, 8.W.I., via New York and Trinidad for their annual sunning in the Caribbean. Trying to get him to stop for a short one in New York on the way through.
Your 40th Report is finally released to the printer some consternation since I put on the same pages both black and white and color snaps. Trust we will get this resolved and printed. If not soon, I'll have to head to sea on a one-way trip. The follow-up card asked you to disregard if you had replied to the first. This produced some confusion with you and us. Didn't get too much in the form of news on the card replies unfortunately, but it did produce a nice long letter from Curt Wright. He reports enjoying his practice which gets him into every conceivable kind of case including a lad who had been taking some LSD trips.
Our good friend Paul Richter '20 of Concord, writes, "The Class of '27 has made a most important contribution to residents of this area in loaning us Ruel N. Colby - our sports editor for many years. Ruel is a very modest gent but he writes a wonderful column." Will send the columns that Paul furnished on to Mike. Ruel, the "Dean" of New Hampshire sportswriters, is off to Red Sox camp in Florida and then on to a Caribbean vacation. Incidentally, Paul who is chairman of the Merrimack County Alumni Association sent their roster, some seven '27ers listed, they meet first Wednesday of each month—let's drop in some Wednesday.
Lester Eaton is another '27er who is retiring. For 32 years he has been with the New Hampshire Department of Employment Security - for the last 24 years as manager of the Keene Office. According to the news story, Les and his wife Eleanor plan to remain at their home at 4 Harold Road, Keene. Justin Doyle of Rochester, N. Y., has recently been elected a director of the Rochester Telephone Company.
Buirny Smith got his picture in the papers recently upon his promotion to General Sales Manager of Consumer Products Kendall Co., Textile Division. Congrats Bunny.
Hope to see all '27 lawyers as well as you in New York April 17, Dartmouth Club where '27 will honor the distinguished Judge Dudley Bonsai.
John Manser '26, captain of the 1926 hockey team and a member of the 1928 U.S.Olympics six, is a frequent visitor to Davis Rink where he is snapped centering oneof the varsity lines, flanked by Tom Long '68 and Captain John Meehan '68.
