One more reminder about the local Dartmouth Clubs in most of the cities where '63's are located - they need assistance in enrollment and interviewing of prospective students. Over the past few months I've been involved with these tasks and have found it very interesting. It's a fine way to serve the College and a lot of fun. Look into membership in one of the clubs; you'll find that they're very active.
Harry Zlokower wrote and brought me up to date on his activities which include an engagement to Bobbi Weinrebe, a senior at Skidmore and a wedding planned for June. Harry's a grad student in English at NYU and a resident proctor in one of the men's undergraduate dorms. He misses the WDCR microphones as much as I do and probably has moments when he, too, wishes he were entering a career of sports broadcasting. They pass. News of other '63's in- clude: Marty Bowne - married Lenore Gilbert in July and now serving in Germany with the Army as a second lieutenant; RickHashhagen - now a credit manager with a bank in Ruch, N. Y. - near Rochester; ChipBohlinger —in his second year at Rutgers Law School; Kevin Lowther — training and recruiting Peace Corpsmen (as reported, and now verified); Tim Brandt - employed somewhere in NYC with some firm in some capacity (information on Tim is a bit sketchy); and Jim Page, our Olympic skier, is at Wesleyan University in Connecticut studying and teaching and accompanied by wife Ginny and two daughters.
From the Subes' better half, Petie, comes news that Jonathan Bates spent several months, including Christmas, in Mississippi as a civil rights worker in voter registration. He reports that things are quiet but the work is hard but adds: "Christmas in Mississippi isn't quite like that in Hanover especially if you're a civil rights worker." Jon can be reached c/o Rev. Dave Barnes, Delta Ministry, Winstonville, Miss.
A birth announcement from Joe Attonito and wife announcing the arrival of Jennifer Mary, 5 lbs., 10 oz. and all girl on December 15. Joe now lives at 316 E. Walnut St., Long Beach, Long Island. Subes and Petie write that Mike Vale is studying for his Ph.D. in political science at Syracuse and that Al and Carole Palmer sent a card from Cambridge. Al briefly complains of the amount of work Law Review membership entails at Harvard - sorry about that, Al; and writes that he'll be working with a firm in California this summer. Carole is teaching in Chelmsford, about a half-hour outside of Cambridge.
Pete Cornish has completed his training course in the U.S. Air Force Officer Training School at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, and has been commissioned a second lieutenant. Pete, who has also earned his M.B. A., was selected for this Air Force school through a competitive examination. When he returned to his home state, New Jersey, he was assigned to the Air National Guard for training and duty as an information officer. Pete also gave us some more important news, his engagement to Jill Gunner of Wilton, Conn. She's a senior at Elmira College, near Cornell, and is studying to be a teacher and speech therapist. This past month he has started training with a New York ad agency as an account executive trainee.
The Naz checks in - Steve Nazro writes from Germany that he's busy editing the Battalion's newspaper - an enterprise which I'm sure Naz had a lot to do with starting. I forwarded Steve's Christmas thoughts and verses to Skip for possible inclusion in a Newsletter - but they center on the Vietnam situation and the difficulties for all of us that it brings. And, my thanks for all the cards from other '63's.
Other news includes: Walt Ryba and wife Geraldine are now in New York - he's with an insurance company and attending Fordham Law School at night. John Prescott after a year of graduate work at Brown, John is teaching French at the New Hampton School in New Hampshire. Lehigh University sent news that George Shanno received his Master's in History in October from that school - but I have no further news on his plans.
Finally, this month, Wally Chappell continues to stay in the news. Seems that the Honolulu paper thought enough of Wally's work to print nearly a page about it. Wally and Karen are now in New York, I think and as we get more news of his progress in theater, acting, and directing, I'll pass it along. How about some letters, '63's?
