The frost was on the pumpkin this morning and the Indian summer that was experienced in New England for the past month has swiftly moved south. On the way to work this a.m., I noticed that the recent cold snap gave rise to Mother Nature's colorful paint brash; for the foliage was sporting its brilliantly vivid fall attire.
The football season is in high gear and "Jake's Boys" have won over UNH, Holy Cross, Princeton, and Brown. Columbia appears to be the club to watch for in the Ivy League; however, this guy feels that the Green Team is strong enough to take the league this year.
Remember the first words spoken to class members at the games should concern our 20th Reunion!!! Wear a badge, shout it, whisper it, but for God's sake mention it to everyone within earshot. The momentum that we start building now should carry us through the long winter months and on to pleasant reality come June.
Our class officers and reunion committee will be meeting in Cambridge prior to the Harvard game, so keep the eyes and ears peeled for future reunion plans!
Smog Anderson recently called me regarding the Harvard Game plans and get together. He pleasantly surprised me with news of my old roommate John Grocott's recent return from Hawaii. John has been managing the Hawaiian office of Merrill Lynch and is now attending the outfit's top management course in New York while pretty Judy and the family set up camp in Boxford, Mass.
Mary, Judy, and Edie Anderson should have plenty to talk about while John, Jay and Yours Truly tie one on for old times' sake.
Keeping in the brokerage vein, JohnShuman, a partner in the firm of Shuman, Agnew and Co. in San Francisco was reelected to a second two-year term on the College's Alumni Council. John represents District 2 of Region VII, the Pacific states. His second term started July 1. He is also president of the Piedmont California School Board and a member of the Security Analysts of San Francisco. John hangs his hat at 444 Mountain Ave., Piedmont, Calif.
The alumni in the area are in fine hands, John. Congratulations.
IC Industries has named Bill Kay group vice president for consumer products among which are listed Pepsi Cola, Dad's Root Beer, Midas-International Corporation, and Perfect Plus Hosiery, thereby indicating that IC is truly diversified. Bill, who lives, in Hinsdale, Ill., is a founder and director of the Talent Assistance Program, a minority economic development program in Chicago, and serves on the board of managers of the Chicago YMCA.
And Chemical Bank has named Bob Callander a senior vice president with increased responsibility in Chemical's corporate banking. He has been with the bank since 1957, serving successively as assistant secretary, assistant vice president, vice president, and regional vice president. He is in charge of the bank's business from Indiana to the West Coast with the exception of the Southwest. Bob and wife Marilyn plus Pamela, Robert Jr., and David live in Short Hills, N. J.
From Dayton, Ohio, I hear that John E. Kohnle, president and chief executive of Monarch Marketing Systems, a subsidiary of Pitney-Bowes, has chosen to resign these positions and become chairman of the board. His successor as president and chief executive of Monarch is our own TomLoemaker, who was executive vice president.
The chairman and chief executive officer of Pitney-Bowes said "the company is fortunate to have an able successor in Tom to carry on in the Kohnle tradition of progressive leadership." He stated that Tom is an able administrator with the same concern for human values that has characterized the Kuhnle family and that he expected to see Monarch continue its growth and progress under Tom's direction.
Before joining Monarch as executive assistant to the president in 1968, Tom was manager of business development in Pitney Bowe's corporate development department. Continued success, Tom, and congratulations on a fine job.
You people in the Windy City, keep your eyes peeled for the fabulous Frenchman Marcel Durot. Marcel seems to be comuting between Boston and Chicago in various presidential capacities with the Gillette Company. He is now the head of Gillette's personal care division headquartered in Chicago. Since 1955, Marcel has been president of both the Toiletries and Paper Mate divisions of the company. Another round of applause, gang; however, samples are still hard to come by.
The Class extends its sincere condolences to John Upton whose famous father, former senator Robert Upton recently passed away in Concord, N. H., at the age of 88.
See you at the games, gang, and think Reunion, Reunion, Reunion.
