Two years away from the Hanover Plain and no one's doing anything interesting enough to write about .. . not only that, but the '72s are ahead of us in Alumni Fund contributions. Maybe my mailbox is bugged.
The secretary of every class has a file of 3x5 index cards, one for each member of the Class, containing addresses and various unintelligible information. While seized by a fit of boredom recently we went through these cards and come up with the figure that roughly 300 '71s are living in New England, of whom 100 reside in Vermont or New Hampshire - most of these in the Hanover area. This is a substantially greater number than came from those parts, so it seems that the North Woods exerted an attraction on many of us; who knows how many more would be there if they could.
Ivan Suzman will start an M.S./Ph.D. program at the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa in September. He will be in the Department of Anatomy at the Medical School working in comparative analysis of human skull evolution.
Dave Aylward has weathered the election and is now on Sen. McGovern's staff whilst living on Capitol Hill. He reports that he's applied to a couple of law schools but hopes to find a reason not to go ... Dave recently saw Ken Bruntel, a "skinny remnant of his former imposing self, adorned with what could pass for modishly long hair." Ken is experiencing Yale Anthropology School and rumor has it that he is off to Haiti to study voodoo - if he decides not to become Director of Security for Bill Orosz and Bob Harrington's first dictatorship.
Jon Osgood writes to say that Dave Kirklan, about to graduate from Tuck, can't make up his mind whether he wants to be an accountant, an investment banker or a financial analyst, but it's more than likely that he'll end up in Minnesota. Dave responds by blowing the whistle on Bob Milbert: Bob and his wife, whom he reportedly met over a beer pong table in Wisconsin, are the proud parents of a new son. Bob is working in Minnesota and "contemplating" going to business school.
Continuing with the Minnesota report, Pete Kieley has returned to the Gopher State and is at the University of Minnesota Medical School studying hair transplants. Jay Bennett is finishing his second year at Billy Mitchell Law School and is working as a legal assistant in a Minneapolis firm. Tom Pugh is an assistant at the same firm and attends the University of Minnesota Law School. His career is somewhat in jeopardy since reputable sources (i.e. Osgood) report that he is about to be subpeonaed to explain his presence at the Watergate late one night last summer.
Leaving Minnesota but staying on the subject of law school, Tony Fitzpatrick has finished his second year at Albany Law and works part-time as aide to a state senator in Albany. He has been seen prowling around Skidmore and at several of Hanover's better tap systems.
Dave Shair, returned from an extended tour of Europe and North Africa, has changed pace by becoming a New York cabdriver. He lives in the Morningside Heights area and often bumps into Vinnie Ferraro, who is attending the School of International Affairs at Columbia.
John Eaton reports, with some disbelief, that he played host in Cleveland to a mixed group of '71s and undergraduates returning east after a trip to the Coors brewery in Colorado. John says that the house is still standing but he can't forgive John Casey for doing those things to the dog.
Russ Deyo, now through with first year exams at Georgetown Law, and his beautiful wife Steffi report that Lad Hudac is out of the Peace Corps, recovered from hepatitis and applying to medical schools. Russ did not know what Harry Sear's plans were: Harry left his job with Time Inc. to go to San Francisco with the Saturday Review, which showed its gratitude by promptly folding.
We are saddened to report the tragic death of Peter Lance in Berkeley, Calif., during February.
