No better way to express our thanks for the great party at Pocantico Hills in June than to quote from John French's letter to the Class. "Our class spirit was never better demonstrated than by the turnout in beautiful surroundings and ideal weather. The Class can never adequately express its appreciation to Nelson and Happy for bringing so many of us together on such a memorable occasion. Total attendance was 233, which included 102 class members and 14 widows. This is the largest turnout we have ever had except at a regular Hanover reunion." After morning sports, luncheon, a few words from Nelson and Bob McClory, a Class Award to John Tiedtke with citaton (in Rhode Islandese and Ciceronian Latin) by CarlHaffenreffer, we had a pleasant afternoon touring the gardens and viewing the sculptures on the grounds and the works of art in the galleries of the Rockefeller home. And now Nelson has given us even greater cause for thanksgiving by his acceptance of appointment to the Vice Presidency of the United States. Give a Rouse!

Driving home from Pocantico Hills with the McFarlands, we stopped to visit with Blancheand Milt McInnes at Heritage Village and were able to get a taste of their attraction to this community in Southbury. Their son Donald is carrying on the railroad tradition and is with Santa Fe in Temple, Texas. At about the same time as our eastern reunion, the annual Ojai gathering was held, attracting the Marrs, Lawsons, Jacobs, Tangemans, Tunniclififs, Clarks, Rodis, and Stewarts. Our next informal reunion will be at Woodstock October 11-12 for the Princeton game, and on January 22-26 the 1930 Academic Conference will be held in Aspen with HerbStein as planner and President Kemeny the keynoter.

Helene and Pete Callaway now spend three or four months each year in Spain about 85 miles south of Valencia. No telly or telephone but good food and beverages at reasonable prices. Meade Alcorn has received an honorary degree from the University of Hartford, "an example of decency and candor in public life, his career is a landmark that younger leaders would do well to emulate." Burt Crandell, now retired from his petroleum marketing business will alternate living in their home in the Bahamas and their summer home at 222 Brook Hollow, a mile on East Wheelock Street from the Hanover Inn.

Herb Uhl has left the chairmanship of the Franz Brewery in Rastatt which is near Baden Baden. "It is a small plant by U.S. standards but is 120 years old and makes excellent beer." Captain Bill Harrison, retired from the U.S. Naval Dental Corps, reports an address change from Florida to Tuscon, Jack Rich continues as chairman and chief executive of New England Gas & Electric but expects to retire at the end of 1975.

Ham South is secretary of the Capital District Transportation Authority. He represents Albany County and is also chairman for 12 counties of the National Alliance of Businessmen. Fran Horn is now executive vice president of Wagner College on Staten Island.

Ed Butterworth has been appointed Public Administrator for Essex County, Mass., by the Governor's Council. We had a nice visit recently with the Watsons at Spofford Lake. Fred was about to set forth on a two week Canadian venture, by car to Chibougamau, Quebec, by air to Little Loon Lake, and then a lengthy river trip by canoe to Evans Bay. No guide, but experienced companions and rod and reel.

A new 1930 record for Alumni Fund giving - in excess of $69,000. Lee Sturman will serve as class agent for the next two years.

We have learned with sorrow of the death of Paul G. Ford on August 12 and our sympathy is extended to Helen and their family.

Then, after this column was on the way to Hanover we learned the sad news of the death of Harry Dunning whose obituary appears in this issue. To his family also goes 1930's sympathy.

1930 members at the retirement testimonal dinner last spring for Fran Horn included(from l): Charles Rauch, Chic Sherburne, Billie Horn, Fran, Ellie French and ClassPresident John French who acted as the dinner speaker.
