In March Parker Hayden and his cousin Bette Selle increased the 1916 population at Sarasota, Florida, Siesta Key to six. They spent a short vacation within visiting reach of Ralph and RuthGeorge and Anson and Leila Bates. Herb Kimball writes from Ambler, Pa., "My daughter and her family were moved to Hawaii by the 'Defense Forces' and they delight in the warm sunshine. I visited them last fall — coming back was quite a shift in climate that has taken me a month to get used to the cold." Interesting that two 1916 families have a common bond in their connection with the Weyerhaeuser Company — Ollie Barr's son O. James III is an official of the company in Denver and Roly Wass's son-in-law E. H. Deyo Jr. is in charge of the company's Tree Farm Program at Castle Rock, Washington. Ev Parker's youngest daughter, with an A.B. from Smith and M.A. from Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, is an elected member of the Town Council of Wellesley, Massachusetts.
Dan Dinsmoor includes the following in a letter, "During the summer the latch string is always out for any sixteener who may be in the vicinity of Laconia, New Hampshire - for instructions as to how to get to our place on Winnepesaukee, phone 603-293-2210."
On the plus side the Class has three sets of twin granddaughters, Bill Biel gave us the first news about his twin granddaughters then Russ Leavitt added his twin granddaughters and the twin granddaughters of Hank and Marion Blaney bring the total to six. On the minus side Jake Mensel is in the hospital with a broken hip.
Our class has lost one of its most devoted members in the passing of Warren "Tog" Upham. This man overflowed with talent in his singing, his composing of poetry and his skill in drawing. To these he added that love for his classmates that made him one of the most joyful companions to be with. His obituary will appear in a future issue.
