John Williams advises he has made arrangements to have the usual luncheon with 1918 at the time of the fall party September 23-24. Make your reservations with the Inn. Incidentally, our birthday card this year (designed as always by Mary and Jim Davis) features our centennial in 2019. John McCrillis says he has reserved a room — but has not paid a money deposit. Just a shrewd New Englander.
Alice Earl Hayes died last fall. Although she had a stroke several years ago, her passing was unexpected. Since the death of Rock, she had been in a nursing home in Charlestown. W. Va. Jack Clark writes that he and Betty live a quiet life at the Cape and enjoy riding around and viewing the ocean. Lil Colwell spent Christmas at the Woodstock Inn. She had dinner with her granddaughter, who lives nearby, and also her son and daughter-in-law.
Had a telephone call from Max Norton, who reported plenty of snow in Hanover. Kitty Larmon, who was laid up for a week with a bad cold, also complains of the snow. Ditto NickSandoe.
Your secretary plans to be at the Highland Park Club in Lake Wales, Fla., from February 1 until March 15 and will then go to Pinehurst, N.C., from March 15 to April 15. I expect to see some of the classmates and ought to pick up some news for this column.
As you know, for each member of the Class who dies we place a book in the library, for which we have had some very fine letters of appreciation from widows.
I had lunch the other day with Nock Wallis. He said to put a plug in the notes for the Alumni Fund.
Well, so long until the next time.
