What a fine cover on the April issue of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE! It was timely because it emphasizes the pull that "Hoppy" had on the hearts of all '17ers. He started his unparalleled career as president of the College in our senior year and gave his strong support to a class disrupted by the stresses and demands of W.W.I. There is no doubt that many of us who joined the conflict returned to Dartmouth because of the compelling magnetism and inspiring leadership of our president.

Our "Golden Years" sometimes appear not to be all that shining. We are sorry to learn from the family of Ev Carroll that he has been confined to a nursing home for some months and is unable to communicate with anyone. Another health casualty is Wendell Revcroft. Eleanor writes that he has suffered a stroke and will be unable to return to reunion as he had hoped.

Our hard-working class agent, Len Reade, is putting on the final touches for contributions to the 1977 Alumni Fund, both "regular and reunion." Give Len a little extra boost if you can. It will be greatly appreciated.

These notes are being written in early May, when the pleasure of anticipation is in my mind as well as yours. When you read them, some 50 of us will be back in our corrals, having made satisfying contacts with old friends and reminisced about others who could not be present. We will have recalled with pride that 95% of our membership served in W.W.I and that that spirit lasted through the years. Seventeen was alwavs UP!

Further reports will be made at our fall gathering on the weekend of the Holy Cross game, September 24. In the meantime, good luck and auf Wiedersehn.
