Peter Bernard, senior vice president and director of Bache Halsey Stuart Shields, has been elected by broker/dealers in the greater New York area to the board of governors of the National Association of Securities Dealers, the self-regulatory organization of 2,800 broker/dealer firms for the over-the-counter securities market. He and his wife Kathryn have three children and live in Skillman, N.J.

Leon Induni has recently been elected town treasurer of Georgetown, Conn. Leon has been a tax accountant with General Electric 21 years.

Peter Shipman has joined Blyth Eastman Dillon & Co. as executive vice president and director of the company.

Ab Oakes was honored by receiving the Naval Academy Alumni Association plaque for outstanding recruiting efforts over the past year. I do not know for whom he recruited, for what he recruited, or who he recruited, but he obviously did a fine job for somebody who recognized him for same.

George Brophy has been named executive vice president of Masonite Corporation, the Chicago-based manufacturer of building products.

Paul Withington, formerly Midwest business manager for the Wall Street Journal, has joined the staff of Employers Insurance of Wausau as manager of communications services.

Recently, I spent a lovely evening with Dr. Richard McClintock and Tag Chapman in Dallas where Dick was attending a medical convention and Tag was buying, selling, and showing his cutting horses. Perhaps the most interesting item to surface was the house that Dick built. Starting from a set of plans he purchased from the lumber yard, he alone has built himself a $150,000 home during the past three years, working a few hours during the week and most of his weekends. For those of you who might be interested, his materials cost him in the area of $50,000 and he found the foundation, plumbing, and electrical work the toughest to do. Dick is a dermatologist in Ukiah, Calif.
