June is busting out all over as we head off into the summer recess. Don't forget a few things. First, if you were anywhere near Hanover on June 7, hope you were able to attend the annual '53 cocktails and dinner at the Hanover Inn for parents, graduates, and any other classmates. Second, if you are planning to spend October 10-12 at William and Mary College in Williamsburg, Va., please make your reservations at either Hospitality House or Holiday Inn 1776, or contact Bruce Gilmore at 703/370- 6574. Third, don't forget the 1980 Alumni Fund. We are all digging out from under these days and a lot of us are still paying off our 25th re- union pledges, but the need is greater than ever. Dick Joslin and his 141 assistant class agents are hard at work. If you haven't already heard from them, you will soon.

At the beginning of April, Dartmouth had a gala evening at the Plaza Hotel in New York. President Kemeny delivered the main address. Among those present for this special evening were 's3s Burt Dorset!, Bobby Douglass, Jack Patten, Tom Wilson, Dick Lombard, Dick Greene, John Kingsland, Dave Siegal, Fred Whittemore, Ron Lazar, Nick Hagoort, Don Smith, and Paul Paganucci.

As you may have heard, Ted Turner is at it again down in Atlanta. This time it is a 24-hour television news format via satellite called Cable News Network, a newspaper of the air. With a starting budget of 525 million a year, Turner signed up Dan Schorr, Bill Simon, Joyce Brothers, Richard Reeves, and Novak and Evans. Maurice Schonfeld, the former manag- ing director of the Independent Television Network Association, will be president of CNN. Their goal is to tell a story as hard news one day, as a newspaper might, and then be able to background it four or five hours later, and then the second day give it a whole new perspective in the light of the new morning not dissimilar to what Time and Newsweek do. A grand under- taking!

Jim West has resigned as an officer of the West Company in order to pursue personal in- terests. He will continue as a director. Jim joined the company in 1956 and was active in management of the company's marketing and plastics divisions; he was elected a vice president in 1964 and was responsible for the company's international activities from 1965 until 1978. The West Company has recently reorganized its operation and has assigned sales personnel to the manufacturing divisions and has appointed six division presidents. Bob Simpson is president o! the international division. You probably know that West manufactures pharmaceutical, cosmetics, and beverage closures, among many other products. If you are into squash, did you know that they are the North American dis- tributor for the 70-plus squash ball that is manufactured in Australia? They are also com- ing out with a new handball that is specially for- mulated for players with a sensitive hand.

Put Blodgett reports that the "First Annual 1953 Family and Friends Ski Reunion" last March 15-21 was a success. This small group consisted of Charlie Buchanan and his four Dartmouth children, Jack and Carol Levine and family, Anson Mark and fiancee, and Put. They stayed in Frisco, Colo., and had some great ski- ing at nearby Copper, Keystone, Arapahoe Basin, Vail, Breckenridge, and Winter Park. Put scouted out the entire area and determined that the Devil's Thumb Ranch near Winter Park would be an ideal site for next year's reunion. I know friends who have been there, and they claim it is great. The food is excellent, the ac- commodations cosy, and the cross-country trail system superbly maintained. There is also daily transportation to Winter Park, which is rapidly becoming one of the most challenging ski areas in Colorado, as well as having plenty of begin- ning and intermediate terrain. Put has made reservations for March 17-23, 1981. Whatever your individual schedules, we sure hope you can come for some part of the time. Make reser- vations directly with the ranch and better not wait.

Have you Saturday Night Live fans seen Steve Martin in The Jerk? Dave Picker is one of the major investors in this film, and he also makes a unique cameo appearance in the movie.

Burt Dorsett has resigned from TIAA, where he was executive vice president in charge of handling their billions of dollars of investment accounts. He is now president of the Westinghouse Pension Fund, which is a brand new in-house effort. His offices will be in New York.

That's it for now. Have a good summer. Please drop us a line.
