I want to thank Josh for assuming the burden of relaying last month's column. I'm sure everyone will agree he is a prolific relayer. Yet, contrary to what Josh reported, I was in search of new ways of being humorous. Obviously with great success.
Hottest rumour out of Hanover these has mushroomed since the movie FacultyLounge hit the screen. Apparently, concerned members of the College community are upset over alleged behavior by faculty members in their "spare time" between and after classes. Students, alumni, and other benefactors are conducting an in-depth study "to determine if there is evidence of 'un-Dartmouth-like faculty behavior.' " Stay tuned. The movie, inciden- tally, stars Jonathan Winters, Ethel Merman, and Ann-Margret as the visiting assistant professor from Smith. I think the movie was reviewed in The New Yorker.
Well, the class of '76 continues to reap the benefits of being the coolest of them all. The latest was relayed to us from Alumni Records, and I quote: "I have been given the year of 1975, coinciding with the year I entered Dartmouth College. ... My request is to have my year changed to 1976, because so many of my friends fall in that category. Thank you for your cooperation, (signed) Steven M. Tompson." What a guy!
Phil Hertz has lived in four cities since graduating from Tuck in 1978. After Minneapolis, Boise, and Des Moines, "I left. . . to join a hew company in Miami, Fla. The firm is. . . Jartran, and we rent trucks in competition with Ryder and U-Haul. I always have room for old school friends (Martin Karl and wife Debbie visited in April). Phone 305/387-0635. Cheap rates, no pets."
Working for Phil's competitor, Ryder, in Chicago is Pete "Steve" Dakin. Steve and wife Jane (?) live in suburban Glencoe, 111., where the Blatz beer flows.
Paul Lazarus continues (as of March) to make waves in the Big A, where his unique radio series "Anything Goes" (on WBA, 99.5 FM) celebrates the American musical theater past, present, and future. Tune in.
From the pens or pen of Tim Beasley and Doug Rice came word that "Paul Hoisington and Linda Eastman of White River Junction were married by Dean Traynham in Rollins Chapel in March 29." Since the surrender of as notorious a bachelor as "The Hois" had to be seen to be believed, it attracted a goodly number of former Brown Hallers and others hangers-on, including ourselves and Susan Corderman Clif- ford (and many members of other classes). Paul and Linda have purchased land in Norwich and plan to build and settle there. Thank you, Dim and Toug.
Dave Huntoon married Wendy Stalo of Michigan in May in Detroit. No other details.
The remaining relayings were passed along by Chris Davis. "I'm coasting through my final weeks as a Harvard Law student. Next year I'll be clerking for U.S. District Court Judge Robert Keaton in Boston. Just ran the Boston Marathon. Finished in a leisurely (but painful) 3-hour, 45-minute tie with 72-year-old John Kelley. George Jepsen, also at HLS, had a somewhat more respectable time. Ex-roomie Myron Allen was also training, but was exiled to Houston by Energy Resources to practice the black art of'tertiary oil recovery.' Dick Bennum is finishing up at UVM Med and will be doing his residency at Mt. Auburn Hospital in Cam- bridge, Mass. Dick will be retiring from four years as UVM women's squash coach, where he compiled an impressive record on and off the court. Paul Stockton is booking for generals in Harvard's Political Science Department, while Mike Aylward is through his second year at B.C. Law. Paul, Mike, Jeff McParland, Diane Knappert, and others were over to our place in Arlington, Mass., for a feast in March. Dabney Hofamman is winding up at 'Bamma Med and reports he will be married to a Southern belle in South Carolina on June 7, thereby breaking the hearts of thousands." Great relaying, Esq. Davis. By the way, the person who completes Chris's "our" is wife Carol.
Finally, word came in from Judy Csatari, who is chairing the committee for our fifth reunion. She wrote: "The date for our fifth reunion has been set June 19-21, 1981. You have a year to make your plans, and I hope everyone will be able to make it back to Hanover next June."
Have a warm and productive summer. See you at the pre-reunion weekend in August.
