As I promised last month, I would like to begin this column with news of the marriage of Fritz Meyer to Melanie Mac Donald of Walsenburg, Colo. Fritz and Melanie were married on September 13, 1980 so my congratulations are slightly belated, but best wishes nevertheless. They are currently living in Denver where Fritz is an investment banker and Melanie is a childhealth associate. Fritz has been doing a lot of cross-country skiing on the "citizens" circuit which takes him all over Colorado on weekends. Along with his letter Fritz sent a spectacular picture which included a group of alumni and a beautiful shot of the Spanish Peaks. (Unfortunately, because of an ALUMNI MAGAZINE policy against the publication of wedding pictures of any kind - a policy which I am in complete disagreement with - I am unable to have that picture printed here.) Regardless, it included the following Dartmouth honor roll: Marshall Wallach '65, Willy Morgan '74, Tom Sisk, Steve Ruhle '72, Fritz Meyer '33 (Fritz's dad), Bob Ashton, John Morosani (Tuck) '76, Richard Idler, Eric Evans '72, Craig Thompson '75, Craig Kelley '74, Tim Gilchrest '74, Kid Baeth '75, Bill Perell '74, Suzanne Brown (Tuck) '78, Darrel Brown (Tuck) '79, Pete Webster '71, and Chris Lucas '79. Fritz, it sounds like the whole Alumni Council was in attendance. Congratulations to you and Melanie.

I have received word from the Greater Cleveland Growth Association that Jerry Birch has been selected as director of the Cleveland Area Development Corporation's minority business development program. With Jerry's appointment, the development program is hoping to strengthen and expand the long-standing minority business development program of the Growth Association. As director* Jerry will be responsible for small-business financing support efforts, critical and management assistance counseling programs, the Cleveland Minority Purchasing Council, contact procurement programs with the nation's railroads, and the marketing and communicating of these programs to minority businesses and their potential markets. Jerry will also administer the Northern Ohio Business Development Center under contract with the United States Minority Business Development Agency. Four regional offices will be under his supervision. He will also recruit and work with volunteers in forming a minority business development council.

Jerry is originally from the Cleveland area and he and his wife Gail, along with their two children, live in the Oakwood Village area of Cleveland. He has long been active in community affairs in that area and currently serves as chairman of the board of trustees of the Fairfax Foundation, a non-profit community development organization. After Dartmouth, Jerry went on to receive a master Of business administration degree from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business. Jerry, it sounds like you have a big job ahead of you. Best of luck.

I have also received news from another Cleveland resident. Bob Lazarus is currently living in Shaker Heights and practicing law with the firm of Calfee, Halter, and Grizwold. In 1976, Bob married Ethel Truly. She is also an attorney and is with the legal department of the Ohio Bell Telephone Company. Bob and Ethel had a daughter, Hanria Price Lazarus, on December 24, 1980.

I have learned through the grapevine that Bill Gruen is teaching history at both the junior and high school level at the Edmund Burke School in the Washington, D.C., area. Bill was recently chosen as the graduation speaker for past June's commencement ceremonies at the Edmund Burke School.

Finally, via class treasurer Joe Powers, I have received a wire from the Bluegrass Country. Steve Bolster is currently alive and well at Berea College in (where else?) Berea, Ky. Steve wrote to Joe with great exurberance that he had finally completed his career as a student. "I received my doctorate in choral music from the University of Colorado at Boulder last summer. Now, I'm on the other side of the fence as an assistant professor of music and director of choral activities at Berea College in Berea, Ky. My wife Sandy finished her master's degree in math education at Colorado last summer and is currently an instructor in the Math Department at Berea. We bought our first house this fall, and a dog, and are expecting 'a little babster' in June. We welcome any '73s traveling through Bluegrass Country!" Well, if we have a class reunion at Churchill Downs this year, we'll know that we'll have a place to stay.

That's it for this month. Keep those cards and letters coming in.
