Greetings from Atlanta! This month I can report on Anne Bagamery's July wedding in San Francisco, which drew lots of Dartmouth folks and provided some news for this column. Since there were only six '78s there, I have been forced to resort to telephoning to finish off this column.
When I left Atlanta to head to San Francisco, it had been over 100 degrees for a week. I was thrilled to leave the sunny South and land in San Francisco, where it was a crispy 70 degrees. Aside from cool weather, I also discovered the beauty of the California coast and the quality of California champagne. Christine Hughes and I met for lunch in the Napa Valley at Domaine Chandon, and made sure to sample all the different champagnes made there. Christine had just flown in from Boston, where she continues to be a lawyer and was recently made a partner in her firm. We finished lunch just in time to rush back for a cocktail party in San Francisco, where we and other 78s sampled more California wines and beer. Jeff Krolik and his wife, Chris, came to the Friday night cocktail party but Jeff skipped the Saturday wedding, claiming he had to represent HBO at an affiliates' meeting in Idaho. Jeff moved to San Francisco last year to head HBO's western marketing division. You would think after eight years with HBO he could get Saturdays off!
Also in attendance was Barbara"Binky" Moses, who looked great and is enjoying being a corporate lawyer in San Francisco. Duane Peterson had also made the trip to San Francisco, flying up from Los Angeles. Duane works hard to keep all the lawyers busy. He is an assistant to California's attorney general, and also spends one day a week as a Los Angeles police officer assigned to the Watts area.
The wedding was held on Saturday at a site in Suasalito overlooking the San Francisco Bay. Anne married Alan Hoffman (Stanford '78, Berkeley Law '82), who practices corporate law in San Francisco. Anne continues in her job as a speechwriter for senior executives at Pacific Telephone. Other Dartmouth people at the wedding were: Mauro Harway Mark '77, Anne Munves '8O, Chip Deßelius '79, Richard Mark '77, David Graulich '76, Tom Mayer '77, and Scott Thayer '77.
Since the 78s at the wedding did not have any good gossip for me, I have had to make phone calls to finish out this column. Charlie Allison was not home, but his answering machine was friendly. Richard Bernier's father gave me Richard's number but all I found at the new number was an answering machine in Maryland somewhere. William Blatt was home in Washington, D.C. William has recently moved to a new apartment. He works as a tax lawyer now, but before settling into law practice, he clerked for Supreme Court nominee Anthony Scalia. William agreed it's nice to have friends in high places, but Supreme Court justices can only help with a stay of execution, not traffic tickets. William reports that Dan Reicher was recently on Capitol Hill, testifying as an environmental lawyer. He also has heard from Franca Taylor, who is living in California.
Jared Bremer was not at home in Wisconsin, but his new wife, Jody, filled me in on the latest news. Jared and Jody were married in June, and Steve Boulanger came west for the wedding, pulling himself away from his new house in Ipswich, Mass. Jared and Jody live on a farm beside Lake Michigan, where they raise Belgian draft horses. Jared is a veterinarian, but his practice is more focused on dogs and cats then large farm animals.
Ed Dohring answered the phone in Gallup, N.M. Ed is a surgeon in a referral hospital affiliated with an Indian Reservation. He has taken advantage of the opportunities for rock climbing and skiing out West. Eric Remole and Judy Osher have also come through for visits. Ed has already started on his plans to come back for.our reunion next June.
Everyone I called in New Mexico was home. Julie Hill Fulcher is a financial analyst for a hospital system in New Mexico. She fell in love with New Mexico while working out there on a Xerox grant during her junior year. Somewhere along the way she also fell in love with Mr. Fulcher and got married, and they are expecting their first child in January. Juiie reports that Laurie Cox is also living in New Mexico. Marga Rahmann is living in Lebanon, N.H., and working as building manager for the Hop. Sheila Flanigan is back in New York doing exciting things.
John Garcia was home in Arizona, where he's finishing up six years of work at the University of Arizona toward a masters in electrical engineering. His thesis is on computer-controlled infrared radiometers, and his specialty is interfacing optics and electronics. Tim Burke answered the phone for his roommate BartGawboy. Tim and Bart live in Venice, Calif., near Los Angeles. Tim is pursuing a career in. music and Bart's working at Symbolics computer company.
Sandy Wood '77 of Norwich, Vt., concentrates while on his way to winning the men's singles' titlein the Omer's & Bob's Tennis Classic in Hanover during the summer.
