Walt Vom Lehn sent me copies of TheRoanoke Times containing a big spread on "A Salute to Dr. Seuss," at the Roanoke Museum of Fine Arts presented by the Dominion Bank. Included were readings of two of the famous Dr. Seuss books and an exhibit of original drawings, watercolors, mock-ups, typescripts, and drawings showing various stages of the publishing process, as well as some of his political cartoons and Flit advertisements. The material came from the University of California at Los Angeles Special Collection at its Universal Research Library. It premiered at Norfolk's Chrysler Museum and was later shown in Springfield, Mass., TedGeisel's hometown. You do not need to be reminded that Ted is now known worldwide, as his books have sold in the millions and in 17 languages. He missed our 60t,h reunion, as he was receiving an honorary degree at Princeton, but reports to Whitey White that he is looking forward to 1990. Aren't we all!

Bob Sweetser, recently retired from his veterinary position with the U.S. Army Department, is now happily relaxed in his own back yard in Jersey, walking the dog, bicycling, and enjoying good health.

Fred Webster regrets not being able to make the mini-reunion, as his wife needs constant attention due to a retina operation and sight problems. Walter Stockmeyer, one of our honorary members (the first Class of 1925 Professor), is still teaching chemistry part time. He sees Larryand Dot Leavitt occasionally. He misses Ford Whelden and Bob McKennan, whom he used to see now and then.

El Waring got a big spread recently in The Bay State, a local paper serving communities around Fall River. Bored with retirement, he opened a business supplying city police with badges, shoulder patches, holsters, night sticks, handcuffs, at cetera. He also carries a large number of flags. His hole-in-the-wall shop is in downtown Fall River, where his family has lived for several generations.

Thought for the month: You are young at every age if you are planning for tomorrow.
