As I write these notes in early September, football season is just beginning, and Joe Leslie is looking forward to Boston University's fall campaign. This is Joe's second year on Steve Stetson's ('73) staff after assisting at the University of Pennsylvania for several years. Since B.U. isn't scheduled to compete with the Big Green this fall, it's safe to wish Joe a good year.
Anders Persson has finished his residency in internal medicine here in Dallas and is currently on the staff of a local Veterans Administration hospital. Also practicing internal medicine locally is IrwinKorngut. Irwin reports seeing local attorney Russ Fink at the hospital recently, where Rush's wife gave birth to their second child. The local medical scene also includes Jim McNally, whose anesthes iology practice requires a pre-dawn start most mornings. Jim's former lab partner, Mac Marland, practices medicine in Los Gatos, Calif., proving that even Silicon Valley residents need medical care. Nearby in San Jose, John Noretto is in business for himself, applying his legal expertise to personal financial services. When I last talked with John, it was too early to tell what the new tax law would do to business, but I suspect that working on real estate limited partnerships may be as exciting as working in the oil industry these days.
Paul Ahern is managing partner of his law firm in Seattle, and specializes in litigation in the public sector. Paul occasionally sees Kirk Portmann at the courthouse. Kirk also practices law in Seattle, as does Vic Stibolt. Paul and I recently compared notes on our return visits to Mexico City; the school we helped build as a part of our Project Mexico tour in the summer of 1969 has been torn down to make way for condominiums. We'd love to hear if other P.M. members have had any contact with our friends there.
In pursuit of class news, I plan to contact Bob Bassett, Doug Knutson, and TimMcKeever during a business trip to Anchorage, Alaska, this fall. I've failed to see any of them on numerous trips north in the past, but this time Gary Shanley has given me Bob's phone number, and Charles Nearburg supplied the information that Doug also works for ARCO, my employer.
And finally, two items concerning the California legal duo of Brendan O'Neill and Wayne Young. Wayne is taking a short sabbatical from law and is in Hanover this fall coaching for the rugby club, while Brendan contemplates a November wedding. More details later.
