I received a news release the other day from which I will quote: "From international headquarters of the redoubtable Dartmouth Alternatives! Society (DA!S), located in the spacious and tastefully appointed DAIS Recreational Pavilion in Strong, Maine, comes the announcement of election of two members of the class of 1969 as Fellows of the Society.
"According to the Reverend Bruce Saboski, executive director of the Society, election to Fellowship is an honor bestowed to Dartmouth College alumni who have distinguished themselves creatively in their chosen profession. Previous Fellows (some elected posthumously) include Daniel Webster, Nelson Rockefeller, and Dr. Seuss. Fellowship elections are held once every 16 years. The Fellows from the class of 1969 are David Rees Gilliatt, prominent New York City attorney and watersportsman, and Rodney G. Smith, deputy chief counsel to the President's Commission on Organized Crime, of Chevy Chase, Md."
Neither could be reached for comment. Well, actually, I didn't even try to reach them. One further note: the letterhead of the DA!S includes a cobra named Bruce and the motto Quid illuc est? Res ipsa loquitur.
With news like this, who needs the rest of you! Take care and write. And by the way, if you haven't already, give to the Alumni Fund. Thanks.
