After writing 1937 Class Notes for over 40 years, Robert C. (Bibs) Bankert retired after the Golden Jubilee 50th Reunion. All of us in the Class of 1937 and all in the Dartmouth family tip our hats to Bibs for this outstanding service to Dartmouth. Bibs was an active member of the Class Officers Association, having served in all the chairs. His knowledge of and friendship with our class is unequaled and as the new class secretary I'll lean on Bibs and his data bank of '37 information.

The Seattle Post-Intelligencer of June 11, 1987, reported that at the Seattle-King County Municipal League annual awards meeting—featuring an address by former U.S. Senator Slade Gorton '49—Phil Swain, former president of the Municipal League's board, received the Mary Skelton Memorial Award. The League's Outstanding Citizen award was presented to Charles E. Odegaard '32, president emeritus of the University of Washington.

The Dartmouth Society of Engineers honored our vice president, Russ Stearns, when they presented the Robert Fletcher Award to him at the Spring Weekend Banquet. The citation read, "In recognition of distinguished achievement and service in the highest tradition of Thayer School of Engineering." Over 300 people were in attendance, including the Bowens and Fenns.

Returning to Thayer in 1964, Russ assisted in the development of E.S. 21, Introduction to Engineering and, with students, completed a number of transportation studies for Dartmouth College and the town of Hanover. He was responsible for construction performance on Leverone Field House, and designed the foundations for Thompson Arena. In 1974 he was consulted on the United Nations Development Program in Poland, advising on Poland's civil engineering curricula, and on the development of modern highway facilities.

More honors: Marlene Putnam won the 1987 top prize of the international society of Marine Painters Award. Seen at the inauguration of James Oliver Freedman as 15th president of Dartmouth: Lem Bowen,Stan Lappen, Frank Irwin, Bill Newberger,Jud Smith, Charlie Collis, Fran Fenn, and John Milne (who was in the academic procession). Everyone we talked with is enthusiastic about our new president.

Hope to see you at breakfast with the president on Saturday morning of the Yale game in Hanover.
