As summer quickly winds down it appears that a brief report on class officers weekend in May should be made. The class of 1945 reported 100 percent attendance with Cliff and Betty Jordan, Don and Ricky Cole, George and Betsy Barr, John and Jan Osborn, Vic and Vesta Smith, John and Molly White, Bob and Marge Paulson, Ted and Pat Smith, the Leggats and Moose Rowan. One of the weekend highlights was an explanation by Sandy McCullough of the final-round selection process of the new president. Also impressive was a brief talk by the senior who was the Alumni Fund phonothon leader and who never thought she had the financial resources to go to Dartmouth. We enjoyed her well expressed comments on what the College means to her. Vic and Vesta hosted the group Saturday night in their Haverhill, N.H., home. All of us agreed that the workshops were well worth the trip and it is obvious that the administration puts a great deal of effort into making the relatively short meetings helpful.
The mailbag is absolutely empty so the next portion of the column will deal with approaching or existing retirement. Specifically, of the ten classmates named above five are retired. This is a request to those of you who have left the work force, or your wives, to write about your activities and what you do to fill out the days. It would be most helpful to those contemplating the same step and it would help me personally, not only as class secretary but also as a selfemployed lawyer who would like to collect some of the money paid to Social Security and not through Medicare.
At the 40th reunion Molly White and Dr. Ted Stafford were part of a panel on the subject and both did a super job, the former on the role of the wife who is not used to seeing a husband at lunch and the latter on the medical part. John White is "sort of " retired but with his civic involvements, consulting in his field, gardening, boating, lob-stering, and fishing, he is more occupied than when he was in full-time employment —which seems to be standard for many retirees. In any event let us hear from you on the subject.
The Dartmouth football preview arrived today and the first game as well as the mini-reunion is only five weeks away as this is written. Hopefully a lot of you were there as well at the Harvard game, in seats far removed from the end zone. By the 50th reunion the seats will be on the 50-yard- line—in the colonnade which is about 60 rows straight up!
In conclusion happy rest-of-fall to all of you and a special toast to the class of 1991 and President and Mrs. Freedman as they embark on what we hope will be happy and productive years at Dartmouth.
