Hope and Al Frey have just forwarded, with apologies, two mislaid letters that accompanied dues payments last fall. LauraCarter reported various Carter family visits during a pleasantly busy spring that was followed by a hot, quiet summer. Anne Thomson wrote of the severe heart attack suffered by Earl J. Jr., from which, after surgery, he was making a "fine recovery." She also reported that her California retirement home had a new name, "Rancho Vista," instead of "Faith Gardens Village," which "sounded like a cemetery." Such welcome letters!

Annette Lappin sent me a lovely letter about Jack's passing (reported in April notices), telling of his happy college memories and continued interest in Dartmouth news. She sent regards to class members.

My collaborator, Alice Weymouth, a February patient at Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital (briefly), says that she was greatly cheered by Edith Amsden's presence as guide to the "Same Day" unit. Edith's record of volunteer service, like that of John, is truly inspiring.

A typically upbeat note from Sig Sigler, sent to Alice from Florida, ends: "Remember to keep pedaling on Life's bicycle and you'll never fall off."

We celebrated Pat Holbrook's 90th birthday at the Hanover Inn on February 8 (actual birthdat'e February 12, shared with Lincoln). A splendid group of students serenaded with favorite Dartmouth songs. Alumni present included Pat's big brother Dick '17, Ives Atherton '24, Hank McCarthy '31, Ace Miller '34, Bruce Cunliffe '47, Dick Leary '47, and Ray Grinold '49. A great time!

It occurred to Alice and me that a list of classmates who have already passed the 90 mark might be of interest (apologies for any omissions): Charles Carter, Gugger Fiske,Adolphus Gorton, Trueman Loeblein,Horace Masse, Bill Mezger, Theron Millspaugh, Ralph Roberts, G. Donald Smith,Kinney Smith, and Dick Watts (whose birthday celebration was reported by his alumnus grandson). To become nonagenarians in 1987 are Keith Coombs, PikeEmory, Maurice Gordon, Al Steinbrecher, and Red Tillson. One way to achieve mention in these notes! Any news from any of you would be most welcome.
