No babies, no weddings, maybe some birthdays, no divorces: you all must have been doing something. Either that, or as we approach our 15th, we become dull. The class of 1975 is sliding into the late 30s and we are all pursuing parenthood, careers, or those old ideals which haven't yet been tarnished. Personally, I'm working on a good spare tire around the waist which should give me positive buoyancy next summer. Somehow fall each year hurls me back in time to memories of the leaves drifting to the ground on the Green and a chill wind pecking up out of the mountains.
Such memories led me to the telephone where I found Brad Ashley. Talk about parenthood, Brad was negotiating with his 13 year old for the telephone; Brad won, but what a tussle. He has practice at this, though; he is presently the head of the English department at St. Johnsbury Academy in St. Johnsbury, Vt. I am sure that Brad spares the rod, however. St. Johnsbury is a school of 750 students, a large institution by any standard. Brad had the pleasure of escorting 13 students from the school to Greece this year,, an experience he says he will not soon forget.
Brad also tells me that he has kept up with Michael Graham from his old hometown of Woodsville, Vt. Mike has apparently returned home to accept the accolades of the locals. I am not sure exactly what he has been doing for the past 13 years. However, he is now Mr. Insurance in the Woodsville area, having stepped into his father's shoes.
I also caught up with my old friend and sounding board, Rob Karin. Rob was the guy who used to put me back on the road headed down the yellow line when I was diverted looking down some attractive alley. As you might expect, Rob is the proverbial prominent New York real estate attorney who is working crushing hours. He and Michelle are living in New Rochelle, but will be moving to Scarsdale soon. I warned him that Eliza and I will be calling soon to set up a visit; he will be doing a lot of traveling this month. Any other takers?
