As the decade of the eighties winds down, '62s continue to generate good news. George Gewirtz, who is chief of endocrinology at St. Barnabas Medical Center (Livingston, N.J.), has been appointed medical director of the new joslin Diabetes Clinic at St. Barnabas Outpatient Centers. The clinic is an affiliate of the world-class Joslin Diabetes Center of Boston. In addition to his medical and management duties, George also is associate clinical professor of medicine at the New Jersey College of Medicine and Dentistry and lecturer in endocrinology and metabolism at the New Jersey Academy of Medicine. When not poking ductless glands, George and his wife, Janice, empty-nest in Mountain Lakes, N.J., just down the street from John Walters.

While the tongue depressor is still at the ready, Dr. Bill Whaley is taking some well deserved bows in Atlanta. Bill was the founding physician and president of the Medical Association of Atlanta's Health Care Clinic for the Homeless. Since its founding in 1986, the clinic has provided free medical care, supplies, food, and clothing to more than 2,000 of the city's homeless. In November, Bill accepted a Presidential (as in Bush) citation for the clinic's outstanding community service.

Also in November, Eastern Utilities Associates of Boston named John Stevens senior executive VP and chief operating officer. John had been executive VP of this major electric utility holding company prior to his promotion. John and his wife, Nancy, turn on the lights in Acton, Mass.

Still in Miracle of Massachusetts country, Ronald "Tag" Tagney has joined Bradford College as adjunct professor in the human studies division. Tag will also be teaching U.S. foreign policy at Bradford and will continue to be a faculty member of the North Shore Community College. His book on the history of Essex County (Mass.), 1763-1790, was recently accepted for publication.

On the barrister front, Eric Matthies and his wife (and law partner), Judith, are opening up a California branch (San Francisco Bay area) of their Florida law firm. The firm, with five partners, focuses on trial practice in the areas of personal injury, criminal defense, appellate, corporate, probate, and other legal disciplines. One of Eric's specialties is equine law and he is a member of the Dean's Advisory Council, School of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Florida.

Marsh Potterton, not recently promoted but surely deserving, should be commended for having a great time at the Dartmouth-Harvard football game (baseball score of 6-5). Marsh and his wife, Susan, visiting their youngest (Jennifer) at Lasell College in Newton, Mass., sat next to the likes of John and Nancy Walters,John Clark, Gordy Williamson, JoshRich, and Stu-Boy Johnson (or Hugh?). For our Washington, D.C., bash in May, Marsh—who doesn't learn—will be consorting with Dick and Noreen Centracchio, Tom and Marianne Davies, and Tom and Karen Ackland.

Homecoming 1989 produced a good turnout of '62 s. After the game, the class hosted a dinner for our freshman offspring. In addition to the usual class cadre (GeneGasbarro, Tom Komarek, and JohnClark), other attendees included Jim andCindy Varnum, Konrad and BarbaraStreuli, Ben and Renee Vogel, Bob andBarbara Sprafkin, and Bob and MagdaKatz. One member unable to attend Dut deserving of a round of snaps is MikeRouzee, our head class agent. Mike was recently awarded the Joshua A. Davis award by the Alumni Fund for the greatest dollar improvement by a non-reunion class.

Have a great decade!
