Lotsa news this month, so let's get right to the good stuff According to the Daily Telegraph, TomQuinn (Morgan Guaranty) has been named the Robert Campeau Entrepreneur of the Year for his contributions to needy investment advisors most recently of Wall Street. When asked what he did to deserve this prestegious award, TQ said, "I got caught when my shorts went down."
Speaking of investment bankers, DanKenslea writes, "After ten wonderful years, I have decided to leave my job at Goldman Sachs and move with my wife, Donna, and family to Namibia and become a missionary. Their economic future looks brighter, and the cost of living is a lot less than Boston." Those of you interested in corresponding with Dan can write him care of the Namibian Relief Mutual Fund.
Jeff Bennett has been asked by his cousin William to join him as special assistant czar on President Bush's drug task force. Jeff will be assigned to Colombia, where he will be responsible for testing all suspected drug shipments for potency. Jeff wrote that the invitation was so attractive that he just couldn't say no.
In an unexpected move, Charlie Perkins announced his resignation as managing editor of the Manchester Union Leader to become an investigating reporter for Geraldo Rivera. Charlie said that his time at the Union Leader was superb training for his new position, noting that the two "have a lot in common." Inside sources say that Perkins has his eye on a spinoff tentatively titled "Carlos." Look out, Geraldo.
Another '75 journalist Robert "Sully"Sullivan tells me that he has been asked, as part of his job at Sports Illustrated, to help supervise the shooting of next year's swimsuit edition, and is looking for two classmate volunteers. SI will pick up all expenses, but Sully says that any helpers should be prepared to make some "personal sacrifices."
Tom Denison writes that he and Jeanne are expecting triplets (girls) in September. TD is already counting this as the biggest score of his career, even though he can't figure out whether it's a field goal, a hat trick, or an outside shot.
Jeff Little, most recently of Dean Witter Reynolds, was recently quoted in The Wall Street Journal in an article on the current state of the New England economy in general, and its financial institutions specifically. Jeff quoted one of his wise ancestors, saying simply that it appears that "the sky is falling." He went on to say that those who sold before the crash were Lucky Duckys.
Finally, a moment of silence for our postman "Tiny" Frank (a legacy) who, based upon the lack of mail this month, most certainly has recently passed away. We sincerely hope that a replacement can be found before the next column deadline, else I will have to once again rely on my informant "Deep Poop" for the lowdown.
