Well, here goes . . . Proud husband Tom O'Connell writes that actress, author, PBS producer, TV critic, and playwright Annie Ludlum wrote a play that opened off-Broadway in October. Tom continues to teach Spanish fulltime, does some writing with brother Jeflrey' 51, and "the only thing we don't like about Seattle is it's distance from Hanover."

Bill Carpenter retires as head agent for the class after raisings163,000 last year, garnering 65-percent participation, and receiving an Alumni Award from the Alumni Council. This magazine reported that Bill said, "At times like this, you become a true expert in exaggerated reverie." I don't agree. "Reverie" is dreamy meditation and fanciful musing. Bill's work for the College, the football team, and the class is hardly based on that. Bill is truly one who knows what those years meant.

The same weekend that this writing is due in Hanover for the magazine editors, the class executive committee meets there and the class has its fall mini-reunion. Len Matless reports that over 60 people are expected for the Dartmouth Night festivities, the Yale game, and the class dinner at the Woodstock Country Club. A good time to pass on the class's deep appreciation and many thanks to its Hanover residents who have done so much over the years to welcome us and make these minis so pleasant: Len and Sue Matless, Dave andKaren Taylor, and Ed and Marlene Tuck.

The dates for the winter mini: February 12, 13, and 14. Try to make it—you'll like it.

If you were there, you may recall that at our 40th Reunion we ratified a new class constitution. An important change was the succession of class officers. Every two years the officers move up: the assistant head agent becomes head agent, the head agent becomes vice president, etc. (The transition was to be every five years until a former math major pointed out that the then-assistant class agent would be nearing 90 before he reached the more exalted positions.)

So, effective at the fall executive committee meeting, your new class officers are Chairman Jacques Harlow, President Ed Tuck, Vice President Bill Carpenter, and Head Agent Bob Wilkinson.

Time to start thinking about our 45th Reunion. It will be in 1994. We will convene this time with the classes of '48 and '49.

You may have noted a change in style in this column, and you'll see a different name at the bottom. I am the new class secretary. JimBirney and my other predecessors have all been dedicated, articulate, and entertaining scribes. I'll do the best I can, but I will need your help. You want to hear what your classmates are up to, and they want to hear about you. So write once in awhile. My alternative is to fill out this column space nine issues a year with personal stuff.

Now, let me tell you about my eight-year-old grandson who can beat me at Scrabble. Last week he said to me, "Grampop "
