Anne and George Conklin hosted their customary mini-reunion after the Yale game. Celebrating our win in a spectacular game were the Phil Holdens,Harriett and Jim Lyall, Wally Thorsen, and Patsy and Bill Walsh. I phoned after I heard the outcome of the game, but, in the euphoria which then prevailed in the Conklin household, may have missed the names of some of the.guests. If so, my apologies.
Next week a remarkable comeback by Dartmouth defeated Cornell. It was a game marked by six Dartmouth turnovers, then an unusual heads-up play by our defense which blocked a Cornell try for point after a touchdown, then ran the ball back for two points which, added to the 12 points we subsequently scored, gave us the victory.
Some of us had to leave the game early due to the severe cold. Your scribe, wearing L.L. Bean boots, extra socks, a green toque, and layers of stuff, stuck it out, nevertheless.
Friday afternoon after the JV game in which we beat Cornell 42-13, the class executive committee meeting was held at Lucy Cogswell's, followed by cocktails there, then dinner for a lot of us at the Norwich Inn.
On Saturday prior to the game, many of us had lunch at the Leverone Field House, and on Saturday evening at the Sherton in West Lebanon we had the class banquet. Those in attendance were: Marion and JohnBoermeester, Peggy and Ed Brummer,Ellen and John H. Chamberlin, Connie andJohn Clarke, Lucy Cogswell, Anne and George Conklin, Marion and John Elliott,Mil Hallenbeck, Betty and Ralph Hunter, Harriett and Jim Lyall, Rose and HankMcCarthy, Spence Miller, Carol and EdStudwell, Patsy and Bill Walsh, and your secretary.
Back home was a note from Hart Gilchrist reporting that he spends considerable time arranging trips to visit the children and grandchildren in Mercer Island, Wash., Morgantown, W.V., and, fortunately for Alice and him, one in Colorado. He also says that his old law firm keeps him posted on current trials, which he misses.
