If you're reading this in Florida or if you plan to be there this winter or early spring, take heed. A move has been afoot since last winter, by both the natives and the snow-birds, to organize a get-together or mini-reunion there. At this writing, I have no particulars nor do I know if anything's happening. However, if you're interested and you haven't heard anything specific, you might try Bob Mcllwain—(908) 766- 3181—to see what the deal is.

The fall mini-reunion in Hanover in October was another big success. A heavy rain marred the football game against Colgate, but a few classmates were hardy enough to weather the storm. Saturday evening at the Quechee Country Club brought more than 60 classmates, spouses, and friends together for a gala dinner, auction, and good conversation. One of the highlights was the pleasant presence of five class widows: Terri Harms, Chris Carey,Joan New by, Ann Jewett, and BetsyPin kham. Another very welcome addition was our class granddaughter (father, grandfather Bill, and great grandfather all Dartmouth alumni): Kelly Carpenter '99.

Paul Lena writes the alumni news and notes for his med school class of 1951 in our sister publication, Dartmouth Medicine. He reports that he is retiring after 36 years of internal medicine in private practice and at the Concord (N.H.) Hospital. Paul and Joanie plan "to take some time to relax, to travel, and to enjoy the Maine coast."

A letter from Frank Lion, to remind me that the 1996 Alumni Fund drive was underway, puts it as well as I've seen or heard: "...so that other promising kids can get the education I received way back when. Of course the College has changed. Everything else has too, and it would be sad indeed if Dartmouth had not. No two people will ever agree on what change is good and what change is not. They didn't when we went to school either. So, let's not nitpick about old traditions and new courses and 'traditional values' (whatever that is) and males vs. females, heterosexuals vs. homosexuals. Let's just support our alma mater because we know in our hearts that it's one of the best damn schools anywhere." Good thoughts, Frank. He and Dottie have been traveling a lot, including a sad trip to Colorado to bury a seven-year- old grandson. A happier time was a four- week trip with their 24-foot travel trailer through parts of northern Quebec, the Lac St. Jean area, and the Gaspe Peninsula. Frank is gung ho about the possibility of a trek to Alaska via the Alcan Highway.

A news clip tells us that Alex Hoffman was recently elected to the board of trustees of the Southern Vermont Art Center. He is also an exhibiting artist member and serves on the center's longrange planning committee. He and Twinks live in Dorset, Vt. Retired from Doubleday where he was a group vice president of the publishing company, Alex is still active as president of Circle C Cos., chairman of the Association for Copyright Enforcement Inc., and a director of Copyright Clearance Center. Ray Head writes: "When I talk about my ideas, no one pays attention except my wife. What can I do about this?" My suggestion: Take good care of your wife. Because of her, you've got a bigger audience than most of the rest of us.
