Art Nighswander's latest issue of '29 Up! was upbeat. News of many classmates was mostly good, and others have learned to live with their various problems. Not different from other classes in this age bracket.
Students come and go, and we miss them when they are off campus. We recently entertained one who proudly referred to herself as a "freshman"!
The 1996 Alumni Fund closes June 30, and, as always, Dartmouth counts on alumni for loyal support. We're aware that the bequests and trusts program is available year around. One classmate recently added his third gift of appreciated stock. He receives better income, skips capital gains tax, and keeps income for his family after he's gone.
For a bit of nostalgia. A classmate who kept close account of college expenses recorded the following: during his senior year he played the piano at the Nugget a total of nine times for a grand income of $45.90. His total cost for a four-year Dartmouth education by June 1929 was $5,235.62!
