That crazy jake Tapper. He made history this winter with his story for the WashingtonCity Paper, a free weekly in D.C. "I Dated Monica Lewinsky" screamed the cover headline, which was accompanied by that ever-present photo of a smiley Monica. The article detailed their meeting at a bar, how she lent him quarters to play pool, their date at a Tex-Mex restaurant just days before the world found out Monica's alleged high jinks in the Oval Office. By the time this column goes to press, the Presidential scandal may be long over. But one thing's for sure: Jake had his 15 minutes of fame.

Anne Gore, who tipped me off to Jake's newspaper article, is finishing up a fellowship in D.C. and trying to figure out what to do next. While she's doing that figuring, she plans to take advantage of being unemployed and visit friends in Italy, Switzerland, Peru, New Orleans, and Utah—if her savings hold out. Steve Fried wrote in to tell me that he was recently married to Jill Brownrout. They honeymooned in Italy and now live in Florida, where Steve works for an international development company that handles electric power projects, and Jill manages the marketing department at a computer company.

Short column this month because my e-mailbox has run dry. Drop a line.
