A lengthy note from Ed Bock, which I can't adequately summarize, speaks of a Syracuse-area luncheon he and wife George Ann enjoyed with Connie and John Reps and Susie and Frank Sherwood last August. It was a first meeting for the Reps and Sherwoods and Ed noted much of the conversation centered around why Frank and John, two academic stars, had never met before. Ed goes on: "Frank who retired a couple of years ago, was former president of the American Society for Public Administration, former director of the Public Administration School at USC and an innovative head of many public administration training programs here and abroad. John has the same abundant wit that I first enjoyed in 1947 when we were graduate students and traveled from London to Paris and encountered Guy Mallet. He is getting ready for a two-day Celebration in Honor of John W. Reps at Cornell's Department of City and Regional Planning with lectures and, at the final banquet, a roast to commemorate his 80th birthday." An e-mail from John Keefe adds we should send pictures of Reps's wild college days! I had a recent phone chat with Van Lloyd, who revealed that just before a planned trip to Cambridge, United Kingdom (English gardening lectures), he suffered a heart attack. After counseling with Doc, Jim Stewart, Van and wife Ginni, went ahead anyway. Acouple of tidbits from Howie Leavitt: A new book, Splinter Fleet: The Wooden Subchasers of WWII, contains a chapter on Con Young, skipper of SC 449 and his suicide mission assignment. Tom McManus wrote Howie that he's still in the auto dealership business. And finally, George Shimizu checked in about a mini luncheon reunion in Napa Valley, where Bob and Simone Ott and Russ and Marie Smith were present. Trust all are aware of Tuck's recent award as number one B School in the country. I'm frequently asked how many '43s are still with us as we enter the eighth decade. As of August 15, my records (no guarantee as to accuracy) indicate 56 percent of entering freshman class (654) are still alive. Stay well!

One recent death, Dixie Daniels, in April. Our condolences to his family.
