Our Celebration With Class reunion of at least 48 (signed by mid-April) will be history when you read this in late june. A full report will come from secretary Isabel Pounder. Missed by all was Al Gibney, co-chair with Ray Builter until his death in February. Norb Hofman, who also died in February, was remembered via his 1936 banner sent by son Michael. Norb and I worked for competitors: he was Newsweek, I was U.S. News & World Report. We felt all the closer for that.

Jack Patrick died in Portland, Oregon, in February. Marrying Jean in 1981, he got a new family of seven stepsons, two stepdaughters and their many offspring. Stepson Dennis Doherty told me, "He got his fingernails dirty prewar at a Hood River sawmill" along with Lewis Marsten. (Can anyone supply details about him, long since dead?) Jack retired from the family lumber business in 1984 and had counted on coming to our reunion.

Ilona and I are just back from a memorable weeks cruise by a new Mississippi-style stern wheel paddleboat on the Columbia and Snake rivers: historic Lewis & Clark (1804-6) trail country, through eight dams and locks, Hells Canyon by jet, a rodeo at Pendleton, Mt. St. Helena eruption center, Fort Clatsop at Astoria, where the expedition wintered; on board good eating, service, entertainment, interesting people. Great! For any couple. Some cabins have Pullmans for grandchildren. Information: (800) 434-1232.
