Dan Marshall's daughter, Susan, called telling of Dan's death on the 4th of July due to pneumonia. He had been in an assisted living center since his stroke in 1999. Dan was a dedicated class member who served for many, many years as editor of our Pace Setter. Our condolences go out to his family.
In my column in the July-August issue of the DAM I reported the deaths of three class-mates, Messrs Cannell, Cardozo and Sheppard. I inadvertently used the nickname of "Ben" for Sydney Cardozo, not knowing at that time he had a well and alive brother, Ben '37.1 regret and apologize for the embarrassment that this caused the families of Benjamin and Richard Cardozo.
I received a nice note from Pat Gorman explaining why he is unable to attend our next mini-reunion: "I am sure you will understand my decision to pursue the occasion that has just come up. I have just been advised by the preparatory school I attended, Trinity-Pawling in Pawling, New York, before matriculating at Dartmouth, that I have been selected for installation into the school's athletic hall of fame in ceremonies to be held October 12. It is a flattering honor—l am the only one in the school's history to have earned varsity letters in seven sports...football, basketball, soccer, swimming, hockey, baseball and track. Track was my favorite there and at Dartmouth. Two of my records still stand, 100-yard and 440. As a result of the invitation, I will have to wait until next spring, good Lord willing, to join in our 65th reunion, to which I am looking forward to with great anticipation." Thanks, Pat, and our congratulations to you!
Our 65 th is not that far away and, it being held over Commencement weekend, is a very busy time in the Hanover area—may I suggest that you start firming up your plans. Sleeping rooms will, again, be available at the College.
So, keep these dates in mind: October 11- 12,2002, and June 6-7-8,2003!
