It turns out that lots of our classmates are still in school, which seemed to be the main topic (okay, after engagements!) of your most recent submissions.
Phil Cheung was just accepted, with scholarship, at the USC School of Policy, Planning and Development.
Matt Clavel is attending graduate school at NYU's school of public service, and writing articles about his time teaching in the South Bronx. American Enterprise magazine and City Journal Web site each recently published his articles.
Dan Thibeault is at Harvard Business School and was in the top 10 percent of his class after the first term.
Deb Carbonaro is completing a joint degree at the Columbia School of International and Public Affairs and School of Business. After graduation she plans to work as an investment banker at Bear Stearns.
Laura Tam graduates in May with a masters degree in environmental management from the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies. She plans to marry Darryl Knudsen '96 in May.
Recent graduates include Michael New, Jennifer Merzon and Nora Freeman.
Michael received a Ph.D. in political science from Stanford University this past June. Michael wrote: "During the past five years, I served on one of Stanford's board of trustees committees, marched in a Rose Bowl Parade, invested in a successful IPO, had three studies published by the Cato Institute, was nominated for a teaching award and received a masters degree in statistics. Needless to say, this made for a very full five years for me at Stanford."
He recently started a post-doctoral fellowship at the Harvard-MIT Data Center, and can be reached via-e-mail at new@stanfordalumni. org or michael.j.new.97@alum.dartmouth.org.
Jennifer graduated from Duke Law School, and is now working in Washington, D.C., as an associate at Jones Day law firm.
Nora graduated from Stanford Law School last spring and moved to D.C., where she is clerking for a U.S. District Court judge. She recently got engaged to David Engstrom 93; they're planning an October wedding.
Nora reports that Cody Taylor recently left CSFB and joined the Foreign Service. She planned to move to Sri Lanka to join the staff of the U.S. embassy there as a public affairs and political officer.
Jake O'Shea found love at school, or at least at a school football game. Jake wrote: "I recently got engaged to Margaret Hoehl, an attorney whom I met during my fourth year of med school at a football game at UVA (she was in law school at University of Richmond, the team UVA was playing). We live here in Pittsburgh, and I'm going into the last year of my emergency medicine residency. We'll probably be getting married July of 2004, and are very excited!"
Kat Williams dropped a line about her wedding last November. She wrote: "Mark Abel and I got married on November 16 in my hometown of Montville, New Jersey. The wedding felt like a mini-reunion—there were more than 40 alums attending from the '95-'98 classes. The wedding party included fellow '97s Julia Doster Crowell, Andrea Whitney Moran, Jess Hughes, Will Bergman, Dan Thibeault and Brian Schmidt and Bobby Corso 98. I moved from New York to Tokyo in December, where Mark's been living since July when he was transferred by Merrill Lynch."
In other news, Will Bergman became a father Januarys, when his wife, Cubby, gave birth to a daughter, Tyler.
And our class has several newly engaged members. Darren Gaffney and Mary Young, Mike Coyne and Bridget Kelly, Shelley Castro and Dan Liebsch '98, Dave Oliver and Vanessa, and Alix Baseman and Will Aguilera all recently were engaged.
Feel free to send more news to me!
