Pete Foster enjoyed meeting Betty and Jim Johnson at the Wallingford, Connecticut, Rotary chicken Bar-B-Qlast summer. They split time between there and Sarasota, Florida. He had heart surgery and looks good, Pete says. Hope their Sarasota property escaped wind damage from Charley. We received e-mail from Howie Hilton in Tampa that told that they had been evacuated from their home but the storm detoured through Sanibel/Captiva, where we were first introduced to mild Florida winters in the 1950s. Howie has another thriller out titled The Deadly Amber Chase, which starts in St. Petersburg's Catherine Palace. We checked that venue out in August.
Fall mini should be close when you receive this October 7-8-9. Last report was 37 signups already and probably more to come. Don't miss it if you have a chance. Walk-ons accepted.
For 31 years my Margie has patiently accompanied me to reunion after reunion in Hanover and nary a one to her alma mater. Not long ago the Michigan Club of San Diego raffled off tickets to the Michigan-San Diego State game on September 18 and she won two, so we are off to Ann Arbor for a quick weekend and to inspect the brick she bought honoring the five members of her immediate family who are M graduates. My last trip to The Big House was in the fall of 1950, when Dartmouth played there unsuccessfully. It was a grand afternoon in spite of the defeat, which was cushioned by the cocktails thoughtfully provided by Long John Mcllwraith '50.
