Big news is the generous financial support offered by Al and Joan Bildner for the McLaughlin cluster of new dorms on Maynard Street. On May 15 in New York City, Grant Tinker was presented with a prestigious Peabody Award, sponsored by the University of Georgia, in recognition of his contributions in TV programming as CEO of MTM Enterprises and as CEO of NBC. Head agent Frank Weber reports that as of June 2 the class fund donations came to $90,000 (72 percent of our goal) with 42 percent participation. Bob Kirsch, our reunion chairman, reminds us that we'll be at the Hanover Inn for our 60th in 2007. He and Abigail spent a cool, wet winter in Arizona and were glad to return to the east. Dave Squire continues as vice chairman of the Massachusetts Development Finance Agency, which is the economic investment bank for the state. He has been appointed by each of the past five governors and continues as a trustee of Brandeis University. Zeke Lanzillo sent his regrets for our April 27 meeting. He has been in the swimming pool business since 1957. Doris and John Fondahl returned, in late spring, to Iwo Jima for the 60th anniversary of the Marine landing. They accompanied the Marine Corps commandant to the top of Mt. Suribachi. George Dalphin, who recently had dinner with Ed Davidson, has moved from Albany, Oregon, to Pinos Altos, New Mexico. Art Agin is still playing tennis (doubles) several days a week in Delray Beach, Florida. He escaped with only minor hurricane damage last fall. Alan Hall entertained up to eight members of his family simultaneously last March on Sanibel Island. Russ Fraser has published his 17th book Moderns Worth Keeping and has moved from Michigan to Hawaii. Stan Geller highly recommends the college-sponsored trip to Italy, which he enjoyed with representatives of classes from 1937-1987. After four years of work as chairman of the board, Hugh Chapin has seen the near completion of Galloway Ridge, a multi-unit retirement community in Pittsboro, North Carolina. He is excited about seeing the opening and occupancy and eventually plans to move into the facility. At the April 27 meeting of the executive committee in Norwich, the group voted to subsidize the Alumni Magazine subscription cost for interested widows of former active class members. Our fall mini-reunion is scheduled for the Norwich Inn on October 21-23, the weekend of the Columbia football game. A class meeting is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Friday, October 21.
The sympathy of the class is extended to the families of Bernard Relkin, who died on February 9,2004, and Wade Barney, who died on March 17.
