A distinct honor was bestowed upon our Robbins Barstow, Ph.D. The Librarian of Congress James H. Billington directed his attention to the preservation of the nation’s movie heritage. On December 30, 2008, the Librarian of Congress named 25 films to the National Film Registry. The final selection, after reviewing hundreds of titles, included Disneyland Dream, a home movie record of Hollywood and Los Angeles Robbins made in 1956. The amateur 16 mm film can be easily viewed by going to the Web site www.archive.org and typing in “Barstow Travel Adventure.”
Lance Ballou reported from Ridgefield, Connecticut, that he and his second wife, Margaret, M.D., were co-partners in a producer/ writer team at NBC TV. Lance retired in 1982 but found it difficult after 35 years at NBC. Incidentally, Lance credited Bruce Friedlich ’41 with assistance when the two men worked for NBC together.
A call to upstate New York confirmed Don Hagen and his wife, Jane, are keeping the home fires burning in Sparrow Bush on the family farm. They both seem to be healthy. On the other hand, Bill Best, in Williamsburg, Virginia, is scheduled for a serious cornea operation. He and Marian are expecting a long, difficult recovery. How about a cheery note to Bill and Marian (3019 Willow Spring Court, Williamsburg, VA 23185)?
