HIGHLIGHT of the Dartmouth he-man season in Chicago is always the Annual Field Day at Louie Leverone's farm near Half Day, Illinois. This year upwards of 160 of the granite muscled loyal sons gathered to swim, play softball, horseshoes, croquet and other sports and to satiate their hunger with tenderloin steaks, corn-on-the-cob, fruit and ice cream, and to quench their thirst with barrels of mellow, foaming beer.

This party, held annually on the eve of the All-Star game in Chicago, is the closest thing to a Dartmouth reunion in these parts. While Ben George '84, George Geiger '30, Bob Schultz '49 and brother John Schultz '51 and many others were cooling off in the spring-fed pool, Hal Sommer '40, Frank Hardinge '41, JohnnyO'Laughlin '41, Bud Rothermel '41, Mac Horwitt '30 and their alumni teammates were eking out a 12-11 Softball decision over an undergraduate nine consisting of Bill Kimball '47, Curt Kimball '50, and Dave Kadyk '48 among others. The undergraduates are still grumbling that Spic Saunders' umpiring was the decisive factor in the alumni victory. Basketball Coach Elmer Lampe, scouting for prospective Phi Bete Gargantuas who love to playfootball and basketball, was among the spectators, as were also Bill Knight 'OB of Rockford and "Cap" Hedges of Cedar Rapids, lowa, Bill Shellman '18, Bill Whaley '28 and Bill Stead '38. President Don MacKay '20 broke out in a heat-rash and had to drink orangeade. Hank Embree '30 was general chairman of the affair, assisted by Tom Vent '39, "Pop" Nairne '36 and Bob McClory '30.

As the evening shadows gathered, the air swelled with the strains of familiar and college songs. A huge bonfire was lighted and as the flames died out and the voices grew softer, there rose a great wah-hoo-wah for LouieLeverone 'o4—to a great guy for a grand day.

Another feature performance of this Association is the annual Fathers' and Sons' luncheon at the University Club on September 22. The new men from this area and their dads will have been greeted and the lads wished Godspeed before these notes are read. "The News of Dartmouth-in-Chicago" has begun regular publication under the guidance of Bill Abbott '27, Editor-in-Chief of the September issue. The "News," which will consist of a double columned printed sheet, is to be issued monthly. The "News" fills a gap left since the "Diddings" was discontinued in 1941. Connor Shaw '43, Whit Campbell '25, BunnyCoffin, wife of Frank '24, Hank Embree '30, Gail Compton '37, Lew Williams '10 and TomBeers '34 are assisting in the editing and news gathering.
