The "Green Machine" has elated all of those connected with the College because of their excellent record at this time of the season. Although I have seen only one game (Harvard), I can honestly say that this is one of the greatest football squads Dartmouth has ever fielded. I realize that this is quite a statement to make; however, the depth, agility, and excellent play execution of both the offensive and defensive teams have to merit a rating of the best!!
I don't see how the officials that decide the recipient of the coveted "Lambert Trophy" can make any other choice but Blackman's Fine Boys—Wah-Hoo-Wah.
The Harvard game was, as you know, a great one for the alumni in the New England area. The weather was excellent and the turn-out was per usual a capacity crowd. Our pre-game activities at the tennis court were fairly well attended; however, more people were tailgating on their own this year.
Gene Brooks handled the fine affair and should be congratulated on his excellent choice of a location for the elite to meet.
Post game activities were held at the Hotel Commander in Cambridge; however, a real shin-dig was sponsored by Herb Katz and his lovely wife, Barbie at their attractive home in Wellesley. Herb had the taps open at a full blast rate and needless to say it was a happy group that congregated at the Katz homestead.
When the USS DAVIS was welcomed back into the fleet at recommissioning ceremonies on October 17, Bill Sweet took command of the extensively modernized destroyer which has a complement of 18 officers and 290 men. Bill, an ROTC midshipman at Dartmouth, has been in the Navy these intervening years, attained the rank of Commander, and appears to be serious about making it a career. He is married to the former Joan McGrath and they have two children, Katherine, 11, and William, 9. They are living in the DAVIS' home port of Newport, R. I.
E. Kent Calhoun, the Minnesota flash, informs us that my old hockey buddy, John Brower has been elevated to the general manager position of Joseph T. Ryerson & Son, Inc., the world's largest distributor of steel, aluminum, and plastics. John always played the game at full blast, so it comes as no surprise to see him named a commander-in-chief. Congratulations, John. We're real proud of you.
