The big item of news this month is the renewal of Mary Dodge's invitation to classmates to share with her the opening of the Mountain View House next June. I add to this my earnest solicitation that as many of you as can return to share with us this very special opportunity that Frank and Mary have made available to us for so many years. Mary writes, "Yes, indeed, I would like to have the classmates help us open the Mountain View. We will open on the 16th of June, and we would be delighted to have them with us at any lime it is convenient for the group to get together at that time. I am happy to say that our entire staff is planning to be with us again this coming year. Be sure to tell the 'tiers that a warm welcome awaits them in June." As usual, you should make reservations directly with Mary and as far in advance as possible as she has to plan to fit us into rooms according to our proposed length of stay. Also, I would appreciate knowing if you are likely to be there so I can keep a little publicity going in the ALUMNI MAGAZINE.
Mary Dodge is alone this winter. Schuyler and Ginnie are at the Belleview Biltmore hotel in Florida, where he is putting in his second year with Don Church who is manager of the hotel. Mary Alice is at Dana Hall where she is so much engaged in school activities that any further honors of this sort have had to be denied her so that she'll have some time left for studies. John is enjoying his first year at Dartmouth.
Thinking into the future, another year Mary wants very much to have the classmates include Whitefield as a part of our reunion plans. It is, of course, anticipated that the class will be in Hanover during the regular reunion period in June, 1951, but it's also hoped that many of us will be anxious to include Whitefield in combination with this.
Many of the class have known that JohnBartlett had been suffering from a heart ailment for several years. Notice has just come that he died on January 28. He had planned to move into a new home which he was building early in March. John was a grand gent and will be missed by all of us.
Good news for the Chuck Emersons and the class of 1911. On October 1, after Chuck had recovered from his very serious ruptured appendix operation last spring and was able to return to his factory in Cali, Colombia. South America, he was asked to make a study of the Barrington Rubber and Plastics, Ltd. in Oakville, Ontario, Canada. This he did and accordingly is now vice-president and general manager of the company. He and Emma are about to set up housekeeping in Oakville, both being naturally pleased that they have got that much closer to the United States and their many friends here.
