Holy Deadlock
Al Becker and Miss Carol Kay Oberman vowed together on June 27 in New York. She is a Wellesley gal, Class of '52. Al is a buyer with B. Altman & Co. in Gotham.
Just one day previous, on June 26, BillDuncan and Lois Wadsworth of Cleveland Heights, 0., were married. She attended the College of Wooster and graduated from Michigan State. They are living in Evanston, Ill.
Bob Foster had a busy June. On June 17 the announcement of his successful try at the Casualty Actuarial exams was announced. This group consists of only 304 men in the country who are qualified as actuarians in this field. On the heels of this news came word that he and Miss Sally Ann Buccheri were wed on (we think) June 30, in New Britain, Conn. They were residing through the summer at Windsor, Conn.
By the time this reaches you, the wedding of John Van Raalte and Miss Barbara L. Goldman of Rochester, N. Y., should be history, having been scheduled for September 5. Barbara, who took in reunion, is a '54 graduate of Wellesley. Johnny is with Goldman-Sachs and Co. in New York.
Anticipated Mayhem
Don Ryan, earnest finger-thrower at Chicago's Board of Trade, and Miss Helen Marie Bruns of Wilmette, Ill., were engaged following her graduation from Marymount College in June. The wedding is scheduled for October 16. In May announcement was made of the engagement of Dick Loomis to Miss Cynthia R. Dallinger of Warwick, R. I. A fall wedding is in the works. Jim Mattoon and Miss Nancy A. Hanks are planning an October hitching. She is a Skidmore grad and followed up at Katey Gibbs in Boston. Looks like the marryin' will be at West Hartford, Conn., her home.
Also looking forward to an October honeymoon are Dick Leggat and Miss Patricia Bowler of Hanover, N. H. She graduated from Smith in 1951. Dick practices law in Boston.
Lew and Sue Pounds increased their family to a total of five on July 31 with the arrival of Lindsay. They are living at Pierce Road, Riverside, Conn., and Lew is with American Cyanamid Co., working as a chemist in the Plastics Development Dept.
On about August 15, the Bud Thornes came forth with a son and heir, C. W. Jr. Bud has his own lumber supply and building business in Trenton, N. J. They built a big new house to take care of their new and enlarged (now five) family.
Howie and Grace Westney did the unusual when both received M.D. degrees at the same time from New York Medical College in June. They will intern together at the Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, Grace's home town.
Laurence F. Whittemore, president of the Brown Co. of Berlin, N. H., and honorary member of the Class, was awarded the Charles H. Pettee Memorial Medal by the University of New Hampshire Alumni Association at commencement in Durham in June. This medal is awarded for outstanding service to the state.
Ken Saunders, after five years in the special risks division of Continental Casualty Co.'s home office in Chicago, has been transferred to Detroit where he'll be manager of the accident and health branch office.
Jim Johnson moves to a new position with Southern New England Telephone Co., as staff assistant in headquarters at New Haven. While we were discussing Bob Foster's wedding a while back, we neglected to say that Paul Liscord not only passed the actuarial exams, too, but was an usher at Bob's wedding. Paul is living at 11 Ridgewood Road, Windsor, Conn., with his wife and two little ones.
John Ulrich has been named advertising manager of Beech-Nut Packing Co. He works out of New York and makes his home in Westport, Conn., on Compo Parkway. Billand Liz Ivins moved from Hanover in July to Syracuse, N. Y., where Bill is a resident in pediatrics. Bill interned at Mary Hitchcock. From Tucson, Ariz., comes word from HerbShulman. He and Barbara have a very swell ranch-style abode there at 3409 E. 3rd St. His occupation is that of a special agent for Prudential and he claims that western living really agrees with them. Billy is now 4 and Bette is almost 214.
Steve Morrill calls himself a high class clerk with Pennsylvania Tidewater Dock Co. in Philadelphia. This company operates an iron pier in that city for the new Labrador iron ore development. Steve and Barbara are living on Main Ave. in Berwyn, Pa., with their three youngsters, Mark, Robert and Jill.
Stop the presses!! Here's a hitchin' I missed before. Bob Flanders wrote that he was marrying Sue Gastineau in Indianapolis on September 11. They will live in San Francisco where Bob is finishing his residency in internal medicine at the Southern Pacific Hospital this year. The address he gave is 2230 Pacific Ave., San Francisco.
Charlie Kaufman checked in with the information that he spends his days as an expediter and production sales representative for David Clark Co., manufacturers of aircraft pilots protective equipment; his nights building additions to his home at 61 Crescent St., Shrewsbury, Mass. He and Madelyn are parents of two boys, Charles Jr. 4, and Bradford 1.
Johnny Mack wrote a nice long letter from Memphis where he is in the law business as a partner in the firm of Clifton & Mack. He and Jeanne have a son, John Jr., who, according to Johnny, must be just about as lively as our little girl - exhaustingly so. Included in his law work is the position of ass't. district attorney for the L. & N. R.R., which, he notes, is a lot of work but means a free pass on the road. He was one of the promoters of the Glee Club concert in Memphis last spring. The Macks also built a home at 50 South Goodlett St. about a year ago.
From Troy, Ohio (just north of Dayton), we got a fine note from Dave Meeker who hasn't been heard from for some time. From Hanover he went on to the University of Michigan where he acquired a Master's in Bus. Ad. Since then, he and Helen have lived in Chicago, Dayton and Harrisburg before coming to roost in Troy. Also, their family has grown to five, with two boys, David 5½ and George 3, and a girl, Laura Jane 1½. Dave is ass't. sales manager and zone manager for Hobart Mfg. Co., the world's largest manufacturer of food, kitchen, bakery and dishwashing machines. The address is 420 South Plum St.
