On October 5, 1904, John Mathes and Lona Day DeWitt of Susquehanna, Pa., were married. In the succeeding years there were born to them: Valentine DeWitt, 1906; Thomas DeWitt, 1908; Lona Joy, 1913, and Elizabeth Pendexter, 1922.

Valentine married Ruth E. Greene in 1940. They have three children - Ann Garrett, John R. II and James Monroe.

Thomas married Mary Morse Gooderham in 1939. They have three children - Joan Elizabeth, Mary Joy and Thomas Gooderham.

Elizabeth married Ralph A. Helper in 1946. They have two children - Katherine Joy and Peter DeWitt.

The 50th anniversary of John and Lona's wedding was celebrated on October 2 at a dinner party given by their children in Rollinsford, N. H., at the home of son Thomas and his wife Mary. It was a happy occasion, with more than fifty relatives and friends present - an event which evidenced the high regard and affection in which John and Lona are held. We of 1900 share in this regard and affection and to them go our congratulations and heartfelt good wishes for the years to come.
