With secretary Carl Gram on a European working vacation for six weeks, your correspondent this month is Wayne Ballantyne, now back in New York all of fourteen months after successive business transfers to California, New York and Washington, D. C. Carl flew to Paris October 2, met wife Anne, toured southern France, did business in Germany and England, and was to sail for home from Naples on the Conte Biancamano November 7. Perhaps he will tell us more in the next issue.

Since I found an enormous dearth of note material from the class I made a few calls around New York. Mort Berkowitz was a fruitful source. He had been to Chicago where he had a chance to phone Fred Castle and Part Johnston. We gather they are well and happy in the insurance business. The weekend of October 24 Mort ran into Bill Brown, wife and two daughters, at that moment hurrying to the observation tower of the Empire State Building. A great view of New York from there on a clear day, I might add. You meet all kinds of characters in New York so it is not surprising that Mort also spotted GusFar well and Fred Forsch that same weekend.

I would really be lost without this guy, Berkowitz; he is very newsy. Mort promised me reports from the Yale game and as you would have guessed, he came through. He saw Duke Dumont, Charley Blaisdell, Mutt Ray recently elected president of the Dartmouth Club of New York and Dave Carrierer, now with A. S. Barnes, publishers, in New York.

Before we leave Mort, now wrung dry, I just wanted to add that he, on September 10, was the proud father of Mort III.

I have several clippings from the press about Bill Timbers, both reporting his appointment October 2 to be general counsel of the SEC in Washington. A signal honor for an attorney as young as Bill. Those Senior Fellows always come through. Then I have a press report about another attorney LouFucci of White River Junction; engaged to Miss Rose Marie Guarino. No report on the wedding date.

A few more items from the press (these guys won't write in and tell you these things): JohnPalumbo starting his second year as head master of the Fannie A. Smith School in Bridgeport; Bob Burns, employee relations for GE in Lynn, speaking before the North Shore Chapter of the National Association of Cost Accountants in Salem.

Dave Taylor, who has not written an alumni secretary in sixteen years, just walked into my office. Dave is a Time, Incer, at their Springdale, Conn., graphic arts research laboratories. Told me he took his wife and two boys to the Colgate game in Hanover this year.

On the change-of-address list this month I noted the name of Bill Parenteau, now living at 264-05 Langston Ave., Glen Oaks Village, L. 1., N. Y. Bill, as of June '53, is Chief Controller in the CAA tower at La Guardia field. The CAA controls all local air traffic at the field all landings and take off and movement in the immediate proximity. Bill told me you are always sure of getting the grand tour of the operation if you happen to have some spare time between planes.

I have a big piece from the Painesville (O.) Telegraph about Don Rowley (he's the publisher of this paper one of a chain of four he runs). His radio station in Ashtabula, WICA, went TV back in September. Don is a pretty important operator in northeast Ohio.

This winds up all I have been able to gather for the month, except for some address changes. Please answer the questionnaire for Gram attached to the first issue of the MintBag. It isn't every day that we make the AP news ticker, so you have to keep the news flowing into Carl. You have to be your own best reporter.

Al Bryant, now at 24 instead of 21 Coulton Park, Needham 92. (I don't get that one.) Bill Parrish, 6017 W. 35th St., Minneapolis 16; Max Polster, 134 Remsen St., Brooklyn 1; Charley Schaaf, 914 Corsica Dr., Pacific Palisades, Calif.; Lt. Cmdr. Bill Storck, Quarters I-3 NSD, Mechanicsburg, Pa.; Eg Cabbie, Robt. Clarke & Associates, 1614 duPont Bldg., Miami, Fla.; Doug Cochran, 5516 Grove St., Chevy Chase, Md.
