In August, I had the fun of being in Hanover for a couple of days and at that time enjoyed seeing John Springer and Bill Johnson and their families. Congratulations go to John who was recently appointed administrative assistant of Mary Hitchcock Hospital. He had previously served as administrative resident at the hospital, as part of his master's degree requirements under the University of Michigan Program in Hospital Administration. John, Jane, and daughter Kelly all seemed right at home amid the "native" Hanoverites. And the Johnsons have a beautiful new split-level home to be extra proud of. It's a show place - which evidences the thoughtful planning of both Bill and Nancy in a home which affords a den, a study room for Bill, living room, expansive porch, modern kitchen, dining room, and spacious bedrooms. Besides his legal profession in Lebanon, Bill is also teaching Business Law at Tuck School, and Nancy is extra busy with her care of young Kathy and their new home.
Medicine is the topic - and two of our gang are in the news. "Hap" Haggett became an associate of Dr. Merle Ingraham's in the practice of general medicine in Greenfield, Mass. He recently completed two years of internship and residency at Mary Hitchcock after serving two years in the Army Medical Corps as a Captain. Also, Warren Fisher received his doctor of medicine degree from Yale this summer; he was a class marshal in the Yale exercises and was one out of five in his class of 72 to receive honors. The "Doc" will intern at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia.
The well-known abrasive firm, Norton Co., of Worcester, Mass., has announced the appointment of John Peterson as abrasive engineer in their Denver, Col., office. Johnny had previously been a field engineer in the Philadelphia area. The summer promotion list also finds Jack Sackett, formerly service manager for Parker Hannifin, being promoted to district manager of mobile equipment component sales in Cleveland, Ohio. Jack's firm is engaged in producing fluid systems.
Back in the New England states, Fred Dorkin has joined Theodore I. Koshoff in law practice in Bridgeport, Conn. Fred took his law degree from Duke in 1956 and then was admitted to the Connecticut Bar. Soon thereafter he joined the SEC, Division of Corporation Finance, in Washington, D. C. More recently he completed three years as a first lieutenant with the Army's Judge Advocate General Corps.
Received a grand letter from Bob Simpson written from Karachi, Pakistan, where, as plant manager, he is helping to establish a new Charles Pfizer operation. Bob writes:
On the move again. This time it is Karachi. I spent a most enjoyable six months in Australia and could go on at great length extolling the virtues of that wonderful country. However, I guess the best way to substantiate my feelings is to say that I became engaged to a most charming Australian named Anne Patterson on July 12, with the wedding set for December 3, in Sidney. Anne is a stewardess with Quantas Airlines. The company has located us a beautiful home here. An open invitation is extended to any '53s passing through after the middle of December.
This is exciting news, Bob; our heartiest congratulations to you both!
