"Me and You ... in '62"

We regret to advise that Elizabeth Erwin, wife of the late James R. Erwin died June 3 at her home in York Village after a long illness.

George Hitchcock after retiring from the Tidewater Oil Co. at 65 has continued to keep himself busy with part time surveying and drafting for Englehard Industries of Newark, N. J.

At the June 10 Alumni Day program at Cushing Academy, Ashburnham, Mass., a new $200,000 dormitory for thirty boys was dedicated to Mr. and Mrs. Lewis ClydeCooke as the feature event. Congratulations Clyde from all your classmates. While serving Cushing as chairman of the Science Department from 1914 to his retirement in 1959 Clyde organized and coached the academy's first tennis and ski teams, founded the Outing Club, sponsored the first winter carnival, originated and directed the Senior Yearbook and was senior advisor and senior master for many years. Erma, who also joined the Cushing staff in 1914, became a teacher of Domestic Science and Dean of Girls.

The 1961 Class Officers Weekend was held in Hanover May 5-6. Following a reception at the Hanover Inn and buffet banquet in College Hall, Wes Beattie '33, toastmaster and president of the Class Secretaries Association, welcomed the record gathering of 420 diners. Those attending this meeting for 1912 were Fletcher Clark Jr., Treasurer; Eddie Luitwieler, Class Agent; Lyme Armes, Newsletter Editor; Henry Van Dyne, Bequest Chairman and your Class Secretary. At this meeting Fletcher Clark Jr. was elected President of the Class Treasurers Association and Henry Van Dyne was honored by election to membership on the Executive Committee.

While the Class Officers meeting was in session Roy Lewis attended the testimonial dinner extended by the College to Tom Dent retiring as coach of the Lacrosse and Soccer Teams since 1926 and 1924 respectively.

A letter from Dean R. Demerritt, son of the late "Husky" Demerritt, advised that his mother passed away May 24 in Tulsa, Okla. The sincere sympathy of the Class is extended to Dsan in the loss of both his mother and dad within ten months of each other.

We have just received a tip that Bob and Mrs. Belknap are featured in a story in Better Homes and Gardens August issue in "Why People Move to California."

Our 49th Interim Reunion this past June was held at the Treadway Otesaga Hotel in Cooperstown, N. Y. Forty eight Twelvers were there to enjoy the three days of per- fect weather. Among those present were Lyme Armes, Ben Adams, Mary and Cap Allen, Mert Baker, Katy and Hal Baker, Warren Bruner, Grace and Art Burnham, Randy Burns, Fletcher Clark Jr., Edna and Earl Cutting, Marian and Chip Farrington, Bess and Garry Garrison, Boss Geller, Florence and Roy Lewis, Gertrude and Eddie Luitweiler, Miriam and Hippo Marden, Ethel and Dud Redfield, Leona and Ned Richmond, Eleanor and Al Smith, Carola and Jimmy Steen and son, Katy and Cliff Sugatt, Chuck and Cy Tanger, Billie and Hap Wanner, Edith and Dutch Waterbury, Ralph Whitney, Henry Van Dyne, Sara and Stan Weld and Alma and Lee White.

On July 11 Ben Adams escaped with severe bruises in a smash-up that made a "total loss" of his 1961 Simca at a street intersection in down-town Manchester. N. H. Ben advised Lyme Armes by phone that his x-rays showed no broken bones.

Bob Seltzer's column in the Cleveland, Ohio, Press of July 11 featured a full length biographical interview with Laura and ChetNewcomb at their Fort Lauderdale, Fla., home. Laura and Chet observed their 48th wedding anniversary on June 18.

The Rev. Urban H. Layton passed away on June 18 in the Mound Park Hospital, St. Petersburg, Fla., after being sick about ten days. The sincere sympathy of his friends and classmates is extended to his wife Helen in her great loss.

Congratulations are in order for EddieLuitwieler for the fine showing made by our Class in the 1961 Alumni Fund, with a dollar objective of $9730.00. The final figures were $10,434.63 or 104% participation and 108% of objective.

Manvel Whittemore, attorney at law and former Mayor of Scarsdale, N. Y., died Aug. 16 in the White Plains Hospital after a brief illness. The sincere sympathy of his friends and Classmates in Dartmouth are extended to his wife Helen and his family in their great loss.
