We were pleased to see Steve Olko's picture in a recent issue of the monthly American Society of Civil Engineers magazine. He is currently a member of the New York October Convention Committee. Steve is a consulting engineer in New York City in the field of soil mechanics and foundations.
Dave McBean has become associated with Vermont Securities, Inc., as a registered representative. He was formerly with the U. S. Industrial Chemicals Division of National Distillers and Chemicals Corp. where he managed the traffic and sales service department at their chemical complex in Tuscola, Ill., for ten years. Dave, wife Althea, and four children will live in Dummerston, Vt.
Dr. Alan Zeller has joined the staff of Miles Memorial Hospital as surgeon in Damariscotta, Me. He graduated from McGill Medical School, Montreal, in 1955, interned at the Maine Medical Center the next year, then assumed a surgical residency at the Dartmouth Medical School until the past year when he was the chief surgical resident at Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital and the Veterans Administration Center.
Bob Snedaker has been appointed general manager of the N. Y. Telephone Company's Nassau County operations effective July 1. He was formerly vice-president-personnel for the L. I. territory. Bob joined the company in Brooklyn in 1949. Following assignments of increasing responsibility in various departments of the company, he was appointed planning engineer for Suffolk in 1958. He became general personnel supervisor for L. I. in 1959 and Nassau division manager several months later.
Another man on the move in the business world is Dexter Brooks. He moved to Pittsburgh this fall where he will be vice president in charge of finance for The Murray Corporation of America. Dexter will be responsible for all aspects of corporate finance and for relations with stockholders, financial institutions, and public accountants. He was formerly vice president finance for Schine Enterprise, Inc., New York, and he takes to Pittsburgh a broad experience gained in over ten years in the corporate finance and investment fields.
Congratulations to Dr. Don Page on the award of Doctor of Philosophy degree in chemistry by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute this past June. George Turner, Norwich University assistant professor of English, has been appointed judge of Vermont entries in the annual achievement awards competition sponsored by the National Council of Teachers of English. He earned his Master's degree in education at Fitchburg, Mass., State Teachers College in 1951. He has taught at the U. S. Military Academy Preparatory School at Newburgh, N. Y., and in Lago High School in Aruba, Netherlands Antilles.
On May 15, Norm Fink became associ- ated with Kramer and Lans in the general practice of law in New York City.
Felix Jablonski had a busy and successful month of May, 1961. He and his wife adopted a daughter Elizabeth Rose, age one. He was promoted to Commander, USN. He was awarded the Master of Science Degree in Applied Mathematics and physics (operations research). He was elected to Sigma Xi, the national science honor society. He was ordered to operations section staff, Supreme Allied Commander, Atlantic, the sea-going equivalent of SAC. He was previously elected to Phi Alpha Theta, national history honor society.
Dave and Elizabeth Holmes are the proud parents of Bradford Jameson Holmes, born July 26, 1961.
Kent White has been named manager of a new office opened this year by Putnam and Co. in West Hartford, Conn. Kent is a 1946 graduate of Northwestern University. He joined Putnam in 1958 as a security analyst and portfolio reviewer. Previously he had been affiliated with Sears, Roebuck and Co. for eleven years in New London, Conn., and Chicago.
Harry Dltchett spoke in May at a Boston Metal Society meeting on the subject, "De- fending Our Country from Air Attack." Harry received his M.A. from the Univer- sity of Cincinnati in 1954 and was an assist- ant professor of economics at Elmira Col- lege from 1954 to 1956. He then became associated with the Martin Co. as a Military Operational Analyst. He has been a market- ing analyst for Raytheon Co., Lexington, Mass., Division for several years.
"Pro" Prochaska received a promotion in April with the General Electric Co. He will head the advanced development unit of the chemical materials department's polycarbou ate research and development section. He received his Ph.D. from Rutgers University in 1951 and joined G. E. that year as a development chemist in Pittsfield, Mass. He has been an advance development specialist in the chemical materials department since 1959.
