A quick trip to Texas made it possible to see Bo Head in Houston. Bo provided a mighty fine lunch at the Houston Club, where apparently he knows most of the town and seems active in all sorts of endeavors including Dartmouth and the Class of '27. Bo and Charlie Huntley who is in Austin have been getting their heads together to promote a '27 get-together including the Texas group. Hoping to get DickSimpson down from Tulsa and FreddyThompson in from Wagon Mound, N. M. - isn't that a great name. Bo and his wife, incidentally, made plans to be with us for the fall reunion, but had to ask for a raincheck at the last moment.

Ross Lyon says "Keep busy around here — mostly watching three grandchildren grow. About my only contact is Gus Cummings and see him too little."

Fred Page was operated on at Mary Hitchcock Hospital in the middle of September. Should be recouping on his farm or back at Am Express by the time you read this.

Curt Bury '53 now living in Endicott, N. Y., sent me a copy of the Binghamton Press with an article headlined "Heifer Progress List Rules Out Gimmicks," containing a long interview and picture of Marty Heifer, Binghamton superintendent of schools.

Rog Braman tells us that Ed Baker is well on the road to recovery - Ed and Ruth visited the Bramans in Newport during Tennis Week - Rog complains about being too busy and no beds in Hanover - I'm sicking Paul Revere O' on to the bed problem and returning the other complaint to Rog.

Chuck Carroll in Ft. Collins, Colo., reports another year of general practice of medicine and surgery. John their oldest son is a bacteriologist with Heinz in Muscatine, Iowa; Mark the youngest is a junior in high school with Hanover hopes. Chuck hasn't seen Nick Voorhis since last winter in Denver. Hawley Patten, becoming a fall reunion regular, reports he will be on hand this year.

Paul O'Connell has done a great job getting ready for this year's '27 festivities in Hanover October 11-12. Will report next month on how the transition from Jolly Roger to the Inn and Hopkins Center comes off — but looks good from two weeks in advance with attendance up to former years if not better.

Jerry Allis sends the sad news of the passing of his wife Mary (Billie) on August 12. A coronary in 1961 kept her bedridden until a second and final one. Bill and Kay Prescott visited the Allises earlier this year. Billie Allis and Kay Prescott were college roommates, and blind dates and '27 introductions produced their two marriages.

Another California note, this one from Jim Jones, reports a daughter, senior at Lowell High School in San Francisco, and a son in junior high. The Joneses live in Napa, Calif.

Funny things, '27ers always will report on children and grandchildren but never on themselves. Guess I will have to start corresponding with the wives. Any volunteer self-starters?

Gil Gilbert, a Madison Avenue escapee, is retired to Sarasota, Fla. He and Jean his wife did 13,000 miles arojind the U.S. last summer; hoped for Europe this year. JackThees and Jackie his wife were Sarasota visitors of the Gilberts.

Nice newsy note from Bud Kinne of Chicago - "Daughter Susan Bristol married Paul Freedy, August 17 (Susan, Tulsa U - Paul, U of Wise.); son Toby, U of Ill., married Sharon Weikum, June 29; daughter Barbara married Robert Moll, both Coe College, April 2, 1960; son James Stuart now U of Southern Illinois, bachelor; parents Bud and Louise exhausted."

27's faithful seagoing correspondent DonGardner - "Found a classmate on 'Malibar 11' as a guest. He claimed he recognized me and said "I boxed everybody else in Hanover but you.' His name is John Wilson and apparently has not gone back to Hanover recently because of an Army career. He is now retired and plans to attend reunions from now on."

Bill Elliott says "Eleven years at Browne & Nichols School, run the summer session each summer. Children and grandchildren (6) now spotted across the country - just returned from trip to Cape Breton, Nova Scotia; unusual and beautiful country. Fine salmon fishing in September."

A note from Coggy Broer brings the sad news of the death of Bus Turpin's wife Ruth - the sympathies of all of us to Bus, who lives at 2009 Le Droit Dr., South Pasadena, Calif. We are scurrying around trying to get beds for the Broers for the fall reunion —this is becoming so popular that house trailers or tents appear in order.

A long, grand letter from Sam Martin reports the Martins' trip East to Hanover for the graduation of their son (cum laude). Sam also reported Bob Tucker's son graduated magna cum laude and was a Phi Beta Kappa. Both were math majors. Hanover was followed with a Martin visit to Boston where they were entertained by the Bill Elliotts, the Charlie Bartletts, and the PaulHannahs. On they went to New Jersey visiting the Ed Bakers and on to Washington to visit their son, who is a foreign service officer in the State Department due to transfer to Tangier soon. He was one of four out of 200 candidates from the Northwest to pass examinations for the State Department. Also visited the Bill Hoges before starting their return trek. This sounds like quite a one-man. class reunion system, classmate by classmate. Better put that '62 class directory in the glove compartment for your next trip. A list of classmates by city and state is much better than key club membership.
