In recent years the names of Charles andIda Dudley have come to mean for the Class, as to countless others, "Interlaken Summer Camp for Girls," on Lake Coniston in Croydon, N. H. It is one of the most beautiful spots in the state, and a place noted for what it has done for girls from all over the world. For many of our class, "Interlaken" spells gracious hospitality and for Mrs. Dudley, it, and her many other activities, brought her the honor of having been chosen "Mother of the Year (1963) for New Hampshire." While the active manage- ment of the camp has been handed over in recent years to younger members of the family, yet the guiding spirit has always been that of the founders.
It comes therefore as something of a shock to learn that the camp has been sold. Happily, the new owners are dedicated to the same high purpose as the one that has always actuated the Dudleys. The property will henceforth belong to the Y.M.C.A., and will serve as the site for much needed expansion in its splendid summer work for boys and girls.
Meanwhile the Dudleys carry on through their children with a new "Interlaken" in another beauty spot in neighboring Vermont. "Our purpose," they once wrote, "is to reflect the finer things of life to the American girl." Whether to boy or girl or adult too, how many of us can look back on a life purpose like that? The Dudleys can, and we are proud of them for it.
