The easiest way to start this column is to skip the philosophy, tell no stories and get right in with.some news. So here goes.

Harry Jeffrey is an assistant professor of history at California State College, Fullerton, and director of the college's oral history project on President Nixon. Oral history, I am told, is a relatively new field which has emerged as the telephone and rapid pace of living have reduced written communications and diary keeping, and serves to record the recollections, insights, and evaluations which may otherwise be lost. Before coming to California State this academic year, Harry headed oral history project on the late Senator Tan, and in 1960 was a Republican candidate for the Ohio Legislature.

Vic King is also involved in politics, but in a different way, having served as campaign manager for a Democratic mayoral candidate in Plainfield, N.J., where he is an attorney. My information did not indicate, however, if Vic's efforts were successful, but in light of New Jersey electing a Republican governor for the first time in many years, I bet he had an interesting time of it. Phil Swaim wrote to say that Bill Sherman is a successful attorney and partner of the Stamford, Conn., firm of Morin, Somma and Sterling. Phil did not mention what he is up to, but my recollection is that he is a member of the same profession. Another lawyer is John Folmer who conducts a general practice as a member of Folmer, Fenstermacher & Yesawich, located in Cortland, N.Y. John is active in local politics and was appointed associate corporation counsel for the city in March last year.

Maj. Warren Huse wrote to say "I extended my tour of duty in Vietnam an additional six months. I am now due to go home on 25 March 1970. Still assigned as Commanding Officer, Headquarters Detachment, Delta Military Assistance Command, located in Can Tho. I was back in the States during the month of August on leave and spent, a couple of enjoyable days in Hanover. Don't know yet what my next assignment will be when I return from Vietnam." Well, I hope it is a good, soft one for a change. What a way to avoid the winter.

In the academic world, Paul Green joined Salem State College, Mass., as an associate professor of social science, having previously been at Boston College as director of the Master of Arts and Science teaching programs. Paul lives in Lowell, Mass., where Mike D'Elia is an associate professor of education at Lowell State College. Mike received his doctorate from Cornell where he was assistant to the Dean of the School of Education. Marty Sherwin is teaching American diplomatic history at the University of California at Berkeley, a subject which may be treated lightly in future textbooks. Marty reports that they have a son, Alexander Franklin Sherwin, who was born in April last year.

Wedding bells rang for Maj. John Cocco and Brenda Louise Drechsler last November. John, who received his M.D. at McGill Medical School, recently returned from Vietnam where he served at Tan Son Nhut AFB and is now stationed at the Air Force Dispensary at International Airport, Los Angeles.

The following information was gleaned from a Boston sportswriter's interview with Rudy La Russo. Rudy is now vice president of a firm which operates a chain of hospitals in seven states, having retired after ten years in the N.B.A., most of it with the Lakers. His last two years in the League involved a rather difficult commute, as it took a 4:00 a.m. flight from his home in L.A. to make home games in San Francisco, then returning on an 11:30 p.m. flight that night. Rudy indicated some disappointment in leaving professional football at a very exciting time in its history, but the decision was made very obviously with the future in mind.
