Vox Clamantis. Or, the tale of the tail that wags the dog. Cast of canine characters: Claude Bahlz, played by Irwin Zooker Jr., age 6 3/8, Virginia Spaid, played by herself. Time: April 1970. Place: Hanover. Setting: A walk singlefile across the green.

V: Claude, do you speak Latin?

C: Un peu.

V: OK, "Jean" Claude, then what's "Vox Clamantis" mean?

C: Simply that the '70 Alumni Fund needs '63's funding. You know Bill Russell's annual class cash calling. Say, how do you think I'll look in green?

V: Derby green? Aren't you a little presumptuous?

C: Not if everyone answers the call. Then we won't get aced out of the first slot like last year.

V: True. So get it up everyone. And speaking of callings ...

C: Wait, Ginny, that's a birch! Which reminds me in June Dr. Bru Birch is going to perform a family transplant. He, wife Dianne, and daughter Laurie will be traveling to Duke U. thanx to a fellowship Bru won in endocrinology.

V: Endo who?

C: Sorry, Ginny, but I don't speak doctor. You'll have to stop by the clinic to have that one deciphered.

V: A clinic like the one Bill Breetz was recently appointed associate director of at UCONN?

C: No, silly, that's a legal clinic. Bill's also been appointed ass't prof of law there. Teaching and the clinic will keep him busy not only giving advice to the poor accused of crimes, but also giving on-the-job training to law students. He's a "Reginald Hebert Smith Fellow" at Hartford Neighborhood Legal Services Office too.

V: I wonder if Bill and Jim Palmer ever crossed paths at UCONN? That's where Jim received his LL.B. And to think it's only taken him two short years to become a full partner in the Freeport, Me., law firm of Powers and Bradford (sic) Powers, Bradford and Palmer. Jim's also a member of the Maine Trial Lawyers Ass'n, the Cumberland County, Maine State and American Bar Ass'ns.

C: Sounds like a really ruff schedule with lots of paperwork.

V: Paperwork? Maybe John McCall can help out. He's just been named production foreman for International Paper Co. at the Lewisburg, Pa., plant. There, he'll be responsible for the production of I.P.C.'s new product CONFIL.

C: By the way, how's his wife Mary Lou and sons Culver and John?

V: Just fine. Does I.P.C. make ticker tape too? I'm sure Dave Bunting would like to know. Dave's going to be seeing a lot of it as new member of the account staff of Blair & Co., Boston (Member NY Stock Exchange). Yup, he's completed his training and is now ready to blaze a trail in stockdom.

C: Speaking of blazes and paper, it's lucky we've got a fireman in the crowd. Down in Greenfield, Mass., John Watts will be conducting courses for firemen on hazardous materials as part of Fire Science Technology at the Community College there. John's really going right up the ladder alright. Check these rungs: BS in Fire Protection at U. Maryland, p.g. at UMASS and IBM Educ. Center (NYC), NYU Management Institute, the College of Insurance, and on and on. Where does he get his go?

V: I guess he's just another '63 who likes to play with flames.

C: Like Paul Meyers and his "old flame," Miss Sue Jacobson (NYU '68) married just this past February? Paul's a lawyer with Linden and Deutsch, NYC, you know.

V: No, Claude. But do you remember Jeff Galper?

C: Swimmer extraordinaire?

V: (Will he never cease?)

C: As of January 25, Jeff and wife Mimi (thanx for the note) have another swimmer in the making. Joshua Isa - 7 lbs., 11 oz, dripping wet. Jeff's completing his second, year of doctoral studies in social welfare at Bryn Mawr. Well, Ginny, looks like we've come to the tail of our tale.

V: That's it! No more. Claude, did anyone ever tell you that your puns stink?

C: Virginia, did anyone ever tell you that you've got a very cold nose?
