Clean story. Here are several helpful hints on combating various types of pollution as we plunge into '71:

1. Eye. A cleaner America is up to you. Right? So stop littering. Take your pet to the vets and have it fixed.

2. Ear. Have a heart. Buy a heavy-duty plastic garbage can instead of a metal one. Make less noise and a much lighter load for the little woman to carry.

3. Nose. Try Certs and Right Guard.

4. Throat. Conserve water. There's only so much you know ... 71% of the Earth to be exact. So occasionally force yourself to enjoy your favorite brand on-the-rocks or with soda. Enough said.

If Brown "Hotline" Carpenter opened a fortune cookie only to find a summons, he'd chalk it up as all in a day's work. Because as Editor of the Hotline column in the Virginian-Pilot and Ledger Star, Brown encounters much more bizarre happenings daily. Things like, "Dear Hotline, I understand there is a place I can write to order a husband. To whom and where must I write?" Fortunately, Brown was recently reassigned as a general assignment reporter.

Most lawyers are only familiar with the law of the land. Jack Phelan, however, went a wee bit beyond that. After receiving his J.D. degree from B.U. Law, it was off to S.M.U. for an L.L.M. (June '70), and one of the newest branches of legal study—aero space. Jack and wife Rebecca live in Needham, Mass., where Jack works m his father's law biz.

Real estate is a subject that Al Davies knows from the ground up. After all, Al's again instructing a course in real estate management at N.Y.U. this year. As a result, he's become head of the Education Committee of the N. Y. Chapter of the Institute of Real Estate Management and was appointed to both the National education Committee and the N. Y. Assoc. of Real Estate Boards' Education Committee. But that's not all! Al holds a C.P.M., was recently elected Secretary of the Dartmouth College Club, NYC, heads up Jhe Class's N. Y. Metro Area Alumni Fund Drive, chairs an Alumni Interview Committee for District 42 and, yes, even finds time to carry a spear as an extra at the Metropolitan Opera. Wife Patty is an Ulterior designer and sings with the N. Y. Choral Society. Oh, by the by, this is the first year that the Davieses have missed an away or home Big Green football game since graduation. How come?

And now for something old, something new time. Dr. Steve Bloom (see Dec. '70 column) has become engaged to Susan Murray (U. Wisconsin student). Steve's now working in gynecology and obstetrics at U. Wisconsin Hospital (the mid-west's answer to Mary Hitchcock). April holds the big day. Steve Cleary wed Miss Jean Kosinski (Manhattanville College grad) on Nov. 7, 1970. Both are recent Albany Law School grads. Steve is now with the Albany law firm of Hinman, Straub, Pogors & Manning; Jean with the legal staff of the State Public Service Commission.

And something brand spanking new too! Bill and Diane Wellstead announced the arrival of Wendy Carol Wellstead on Nov. 8, 1970. Little Wendy is 8 lbs. 6 oz., 20½ inches long. Congrats, Toe and Diane.

Now for a little miscellaneous. The first annual Dartmouth Alumni Ski Weekend will take place in Hanover on March 6 and 7, 1971. The ski package includes: lodging at the Hanover Inn on Friday and Saturday nites, din-din both nites and two days of skiing at The Skiway. All for the modest fee of $80.00 per couple, with proportionate reductions for singles and those requiring only one night of lodging. For more info or reservation placement for individuals or groups, write: Dennis A Dinan, 203 Crosby Hall, Hanover, N. H. 03755. Sounds like fun.

Don't forget to pay your Class dues. They help pay for your ALUMNI MAGAZINE subscription and mini-reunion in Hanover this fall. So get it up! See you in the shlump next issue.
