October 11, 1969 has been set by the Class Executive Committee as the date for its next meeting. The meeting will be on a Saturday morning in Hanover at the Inn and will coincide with the Penn game. This will be an open meeting and all members of the Class are welcome. Each one of you is encouraged to take advantage of the football season, the foliage and the opportunity for an informal get-together. Anyone planning to attend should make his room reservation now and let me know he plans to attend so that we can send specific details, times and so forth after they have been set.
All of the class officers were present at the Class Officers' Weekend in Hanover the first part of May. Warm weather and the lush late Hanover spring made it a most pleasant, if nostalgic, occasion. The "black issue," R.O.T.C. and S.D.S. were discussed and explained in detail. Rather than rely on newspaper accounts, I would recommend depending on accounts in the ALUMNI MAGAZINE or when in doubt writing to Mike McGean, Secretary of the College.
Congratulations to John Boggia who has been named vice president for manufacturing of New England Confectionery Co. John and Dorothy and four children, ages four to sixteen, live in Lexington, Mass.
Congratulations also to Wendell Griffith who was recently named to the board of directors of Hammond Incorporated in Maplewood, N. J. Wendell did graduate work at Stevens Institute of Technology after graduation. He was with Colgate-Palmolive for twelve years, where he served as Chief Industrial Engineer, then he joined Heidrick and Struggles as management consultant. In January 1968 he became general manager of Electro-Chemical Engraving Company and then consultant to the parent company, D. L. Auld Company. D. L. Auld manufacture decorative metal trim for automotive and appliance industries and aluminum forgings for the air frame industry. Wendell and Bobbie and two daughters live in Short Hills, N. J.
We note that Dr. Harry Wood has set up his own office for the practice of obstetrics, gynecology and infertility (Harry - I love you dearly but stay away from my door) in Schenectady, N. Y. Harry did postgraduate work at Yale University and was graduated from New York Medical College in 1954. After internship, he was chief resident in obstetrics-gynecology at New York Medical College. At present he is chief of the medical staff at Bellevue Maternity Hospital and attending physician at Ellis and St. Clare's Hospital. Harry and Doris and three year old son live in Schenectady.
While in Hanover in May, we had the pleasure of seeing Truman Metzel's father receive an Alumni Award. Truman's father has a remarkable record of community service and even today is involved to an extent which puts us younger graduates to shame. Truman owns and operates a bookstore in Evanston, Ill., which is the largest philosophy bookstore in the country. He and Nancy live in Evanston with their two children.
Pete Foster sent along an interesting note from Dick Bredenberg. Dick is going to be director of summer school at Florida Presbyterian College in addition to his duties as Director of Teacher Education. After summer school Dick is taking a year's leave of absence and he and Huldah and four children will be off for Nagoya, Japan. Both Dick and Huldah will teach English as a foreign language at Kinjo Gakuin, a girls' school extending from grade seven through graduate school at the university level. Their three youngest children plan to study at International School in Nagoya while their oldest daughter will work in her major field of Asian Studies at International Christian University in Tokyo.
It was good to hear from Alan Becker. Alan is a fellow sailor who enjoys the windy waters of San Francisco Bay. The company for which Alan is secretary treasurer operates shoe departments in the Joseph Magnin stores - a chain of 30 in California and Nevada. Alan and Carol have three sons and find San Francisco a delightful area in which to live and play. Alan is treasurer of a local country day school, was a Kennedy delegate to the Democratic Convention in Chicago, and is on the national board of Americans for Democratic Action. He is in touch with Alan Epstein frequently.
That about wraps it up until next September. Casco Bay is a wonderful area in which to visit and vacation (usual plug per Chamber of Commerce request!) so if you are "down East" be sure to let me know. Have a good summer.
